just read that bit, it was quite funny. we should inform our guys that have had concussions that the only way to protect yourself is to cross-check someone else in the head. perfectly sound logic- "hit them in the head, before they hit you in the head". there's a little thing called self-preservation you see. if you've had concussion problems, it's probably not a good idea to play cheap or dirty. OR YOUR HELMET MAY BE REMOVED FROM YOUR HEAD INVOLUNTARILY. sidney crosby should be intoduced to the concept himself. if he keeps playing in that manner, his days are numbered. hopefully that number is ONE. go philly- that feels weird. -

Yah and Pierre Turgeron stuck his tongue out at Hunter right before he got planted into the boards therefore Dale was in the right. -

"However, Bruins head coach Claude Julien had a different take on the incident.
The only thing that's disappointing for me personally is that this is the third time in three games our player has been cross-checked in the face. ... You hope that those things don't get out of hand," Julien said after the game. "Somebody else, not us, has to deal with that."
You tell'em Claude!

This is what I was going to write about, too. Dale has no room to talk forever after that post-siren takedown. Can anyone share any other great hockey "comeback" stories a la Dale Hunter as a coach (besides Mike Milbury and the shoe)? -

Ok, Dale. You give us no choice but to play the archive tape with all your dirty hits from your 20 yr career.
What a knucklehead. That's like Matt Cooke being nominated for the Masterton Trophy .. OH WAIT! THAT DID HAPPEN!
In summary, Bruins have a nice little edge going into next game. We are in their heads. -

Sucker punching sissy Dale Hunter accussing anyone of head shots or cheap shots is funny beyond words and that fish Backstrom is going to catch a beating in his next outing against Boston. -

In Response to Re: Hunter Acuses Bruins of Going After Backstrom's Head:Lets be honest, the ref over reacted and was just trying to suck up to Gregorys Daddy by calling that phonie match penalty on Backstrum. The officiating crews are bending over frontwards to please their employer, the Bettmans/NBC Entertainment on Ice corporation.

That's what I've been thinking about Sandog. When you throw one of the most outrageous and dirty hits in NHL history you just don't have a lot of credibility commenting on and defending dirty hits by others.
While we're at it, what does Todd Betuzzi think about it?Suggesting Backstrom's hit was in any way defensive is just insane and pathetic. Null level of insane and pathetic.

He must come up with something to back up his player. they all do that. the fact that it's the best he could come up with is quite telling. -

This thread should be titled "Coach Grasps at Straws to Explain Star Player's Bad Behavior"
Or maybe he'd better try the post-concussion syndrome line- Backstrom was having combative flashbacks. Yeah, that's the ticket. Just needs more treatment.
He of all people should be most careful of others' heads, having been injured himself. -

Yeah, the concussion code in the NHL seems to be "do as I say not as I do".
Backstrom coming off a concussion crosschecks Peverly in the head after the game is over and Hunter, an alltime cheap shot artist, is mad the Bruins are going after Backstrom's head. That is like 3 double standards for the price of 1. -

Not a clue. I can't recall a single play where Backstrom's head has been directly impacted. -

But it totally could have. The Bruins need to be very aware of where Backstom's head is and take extra care to not hit him on his fragile head. We can't have anymore concussions. I mean clearly Peverley's stick was WAY to close to Backstom's head so he had to protect himself from injury.

“I don’t think he’s going to be suspended,” said Hunter. “If you slow it down frame by frame, where was (Peverley’s) stick first? It was up in his face. Nickie, because of the stick in his face, he reacted to it. I think he was trying to protect his face. If you watch it, the stick was right up in his eyes. It’s a dangerous play on their part.”
Hunter said it’s a sensitive subject since Backstrom missed half the regular season with a concussion.
Said Hunter: “It is crossing the line. To grab his head all the time is not the right way to play.”

WTH??? He skated from 12 feet away, as Peverley turned around, he lifted his stick up and hit him in the head!! It was intent to injure the entire time. The game was over, there wasn't even a reason for him to be skating towards Pevs in the first place.
Hunter has lost his mind. -

Hunter is spreading his own version to take the heat off Backstrom. Hunter's game plan is to provoke the Bruins into retaliatory rage. Right now Claude has to refocus Lucic and Marchand firmly. The stickwork that Bergeron and others are complaining about has been taught by Hunter ever since he played. The leopard does not change his spots
