He will make a good, cheap, veteran depth guy, that has played for CJ when injuries arise with the crazy schedule that awaits the Bruins.

Waste of a roster space if signed. He is no Recchi or even a Rolston......can't PC do any better than this? Do we really need another marginal 4rth liner?
His stats in cas anyone is interested:

He has been horrible for several years now.
Best start in Bruins history. Tim Connolly is a pp machine. I already mentioned him as an option.
Connolly? Who's had so many concussions he doesn't know his name? The guy who's playing for the Marlies right now?
Yah, sure, why not. He would probably get a hat trick against the Leafs and I'd wet my pants laughing.

connolly much worst history as well. im fine with giving jay a try. I would have given knuble or gomez a shot as well. Gomez knows how to set up a pp.i dont think there is need to panic and add on. There will be guys available before the deadline. I have said since day one we need a 3rd line and a depth dman prior to the start of the playoffs. I think both will be added.

He ia an aged pk specialist who has not put together a nhl worthy season since 2008. Last I checked, we need help with the PP (28th in the league) not the PK. Might as well just call up Whitfield and save some money.
When was the last time you watched Pandolfo play a few games? -

Pandalfo would probably be used as PK depth with limited minutes on the 4th line, allowing CJ some flexibility to use Paille somewhere else in the lineup.

If you are correct then it sounds like a stopgap plan only. I am on board with that provided this is not supposed to be an upgrade of any sort. He does not actually improve the team on any level but is merely a warm body with NHL experience.Of course, he is not actually signed yet....:)

Would he be more useful then thornton? I think adding him is just a bridge to a decent pickup. Whats the harm in trying him. -

The PK is already among the league's best so no upgrade is needed there. Also, it should be pointed out that over the last three NHL seasons these two have played, Thornton has actually scored more goals than Pandolfo (yes, both were regulars) plus he can fight. And remember, it is the PP that needs help. Pandolfo does not help here at all. Neither would Paille if Dez is right. In short, he has nothing to offer the B's do not already have.

That's how I'd read it too JM. He's also probably a great guy on the PK in practice. Lord knows they need heavy work on their PP against real competition. Campbell, Kelly and Paille are the only PK guys that don't also see some regular time on the PP. We also know that some injuries are going to happen. They're inevitable. -

i guess the bruins dont think that way. The bruins are off to the best start ever. Kaberle was brought in to help with the pp. it didnt work. Im not sure whats out there that can magically turn the pp around. There is enough skill that we shouldnt need to pick up someone for just pp purposes. But i hear what you are saying. Im not sure a morrow or penner helps that. I mentioned hemsky bc ge is a pp wiz but not likely a great fit. Kovalev wouldnt cost much. Im assuming we will add a better 3rd line option. Right now too many teams are in the mix for he playoffs. If we were last i may worry. Not when we are the best team in the east. -

Plus 1. ^^^No problem at all with him as the 13th forward. Really? how much would he actually play? He's a guy that can handle 3rd and 4th line duty if needed, and was always positionally sound. He'd be well suited for a few games here or there, getting his 6 minutes per.
He's been skating with the team for a while (since pre-lockout) so CJ and Chiarelli would be making an educated decision. If they think he's worth a low money contract to spend most of his time on the 9th floor with some fill-in action then I would trust their judgement.

The way the Bruins have been operating, they promote a guy from line 4 when a player from the top 3 is scratched (first Paille, then Campbell). That means our 13th forward is someone who will spend most of his time rotting on the bench, and filling in on the fourth line occasionally.
Putting a prospect in this role is most likely not in the prospects best interest. They are better off playing every day in the AHL. I would submit that using macdermind in this role is actually a negative reflection. If they considered him a significant part of the future, he would be in Prov playing every day and getting better.
Im fine with either Mac, Tardif or Pandolfo in this role. I am not fine with a top prospect (Spooner) in this role.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Jay Pandolfo's AAV with BOS on 1-yr deal is $600K, annual salary of $350K in minors. All pro-rated now of course. Now must clear waivers.

There is absolutely zero chance PC has sacrificed anything long-term in making this deal. So what's the big deal?

JM, ask yourself 2 questions. How did you feel when the Bruins held the press conference to announce the trade for Kelly? There was much anguish on the forum that day. Now ask yourself how things ended up working out. Trust in PC. He seems to know what he's doing. -

Unless Garth Snow has an eye on him, all kidding aside, I like this signing, someone in the bottom six goes down he can step right in..Good, useful player for the role he would be playing. -

Glad you mentioned Kelly. I lived in Gateneau for a few years due to work and saw Kelly play many, many games since he was first called up from Bingo. He was and still is an excellent third line center who can pop in a few goals when need be. His role was integral to the Sens march to the finals a few years ago and the B's cup win. He may now be a bit overpaid but I have always thought he was an excellent pickup.I have nothing against Pandolfo, don't get me wrong. Just keep a few things in mind. He was not good enough for any team to sign until the B's just did and he will clear waivers for the same reason. CJ is comfortable with him and that is the only reason he is now a Bruin.
I respect PC but he is not infallible and I do not have to agree with everything he does. If Pandolfo is playing anywhere other than the 4rth line at any time this season then PC will have failed to provide the team adequete depth, much like last year when Horton was never properly replaced.
It is now done and so be it. Welcome aboard Jay!!! Go Bruins!!!
