My mother once called him "Jeremiah Jaguar".

That was 20 years ago, and it still makes me laugh.

My mother called Phil Esposito - Spasibo.  She spoke Russian as well as other languages and Spasibo is 'thank you' in Russian (or maybe Ukrainian).

I also remember my mother commenting on Jagr - "he's so young!" back in his rookie year, and I think that was pretty true as I don't think he started shaving until he was 27 or so.

"Spasiba" is "thank you" in Russian, correct.
Grapes' variations (he seems to keep trying to get it right) always remind me of Mick Jagger or Chuck Yeager (first man to break the sound barrier).

    "Jeremy Jaguar", priceless.

    So you know some Russian?

One of the guys I play with taught me how to say

    "hi, how are you?"

    it's

    "yap tvoia matz"

    or something like that.

oddly, Russian act pretty violently when I say that to them.
