    July 1st: Free Agent/Trade Tracker

Thought we might as well get this one going to prevent a ton of individual threads.

Here is something to start off:

Niskanen's agent, Neil Sheehy, has just informed the Pens his client will test the open market on the 1st.

6-8 years at a cap hit of $7mill coming up for this guy is my guess.

Oilers not only talking to Mark Fayne but Deryk Engelland as well:

Looks like they are serious about revamping their D.....with 5-6 D pairing guys.

Nisk will likely get markov money and be a b oner of a contract.  Do teams not learn.  Id rather have mitchell at half the cost.

I think someone will give Niskanen more than Markov.

Brian Boyle is an interesting UFA to me. Good bottom six center, did get his tail handed to him by Kopitar in face-offs though, but I bet there is a market for him. Curious to see where he lands.

When he sticks to his strengths and doesn't try to be the tough guy he can be effective yes. I see him in a Panthers jersey....not sure why.

More "useful" insight as per Darren Dreger:

@DarrenDreger: UFA talking period has been good for D.Boyle. He will have a decision to make between bigger money vs a better chance of winning.

Dreger continues  impress by making a career out of stating the obvious

Hawks just re-signed Smith and Raanta (two rfa's):

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=455828" rel="nofollow">http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=455828

Both two year deals, decent money (Smith $1.5mill per season, Raanta $750k).

Who knows what Dreger will cover now that TSN has lost %95 of their hockey coverage. I can see it now " Hee- Ree Fass will have a decision to make,go for the bigger money on the World Table Tennis Tour or remain an amateur and go to another Olympics".Who knows, maybe Sportsnet will lure him away but they already have a Capt. Obvious in Kypreos.

Ha! So true.....maybe NHL.com will pick him up or something or he can team up with Eklund and form a power-duo

Brian Boyle.  Hmmm.  Could the leafs who are in need at center try...i think he lands on a contender...i will take the ducks.

As per NHL.com, list of the top Dmen heading towards free agency come July1:

Comprising mostly aging vets. One surprise was Stralman's rather good corsi rating though I would suspect the Rags may try and keep him as he will likely not be offered a megadeal

Perhaps a relatively cheap replacement for what Bolland was supposed to be for TO last season.

Getting Sbisa in return makes me think shipping out Garrison is pretty much a done deal as well

Yeah just read Bob McKenzie tweet that he's heard that Van will still be very active and possibly try to get 1st overall pick, mentioning Garrisons name.
