Re: July 1st: Free Agent/Trade Tracker

    As per TSN:

New York, NY - The New York Rangers agreed to terms with free-agent forward Matthew Lombardi on Wednesday.

Lombardi, 32, returns to the NHL after playing in 46 games for Geneve-Servette of National League A in Switzerland last season. He led the league in assists (30) and points (50).

The Quebec native has 101 goals and 161 assists in 536 career NHL games with Calgary, Phoenix, Nashville, Toronto and Anaheim.

My first thought was:  "He was overseas? huh.." Heads up Mathew!

    As per TSN:

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Sabres general manager Tim Murray wasn't kidding about how much he wanted centre Tyler Ennis to be part of Buffalo's long-term future.

A person familiar with the agreement confirmed to The Associated Press early Thursday that the Sabres have reached a deal to re-sign Ennis to a five-year contract worth about $23 million. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Sabres haven't announced the deal.

To those of you floating the name Stempniak, no deal. As per TSN:

It appears that unrestricted free agent forward Lee Stempniak is getting closer to finding a new team for next season.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Stempniak is closing in on a one-year deal with the New York Rangers.

Stempniak had 12 goals and 22 assists in 73 games split between the Calgary Flames and Pittsburgh Penguins last season. The nine-year NHL veteran was traded to the Penguins for a third-round pick at the March trade deadline.

And in this weeks most ridiculous amount, Cody Fransen is asking for $4.2 mill per season!!As per Sportsnet:

With a salary arbitration meeting looming, Cody Franson has submitted a proposal in which the Toronto Maple Leafs would pay him $4.2 million per season.

The Leaf are countering with $2million.....so the middle ground would be $3.1 million.

Anyone still think JB is going to settle for $4mill per season? lol

I never did,no matter how much Johnny loves Boston, you only have so many kicks at the cat and with the crazy money being thrown around for the Phanoof's,Bollands & Pouliot's of the world,Boychuk would be crazy to sign a team friendly deal. Considering the fact that Johnny was born and raised in Edmonchuk,i think even he will go there for the right price, after all,him and Andy can hang out,get the band back together,so to speak.

Could be 50. Personally I think he will go to whoever overpays the most and I don't blame him. I hear Florida is nice...well...pretty much any time of year.

Can't blame Franson for swinging for the fences either...I would. Worst that can happen is he will still be  a millionaire.

    Yeah, no kidding!

One thing to also consider. Gardiner is an RFA as well. He could hardly expect to be paid less than 3rd pairing Franson. I'll be his agent is watching intently....

It's too bad that these arbitration outcomes are usually somewhere in the middle. I think it would be better, if the arbitrator had to choose one of the 2 proposals. That would force teams & agents to submit reasonable offers.

Re: July 1st: Free Agent/Trade Tracker

    STLTODAY.COM:

"Jeremy Rutherford believes Sobotka’s hearing today could determine if he ever wears a Blues uniform again, as he could decide not to return to the NHL unless the Blues trade him. Sobotka’s agent claims his client recently asked to be traded when an agreement couldn’t be reached on a new contract before he signed with the KHL. In a recent interview with a Czech sports website, Sobotka said his plan is to play a season in the KHL and return to the NHL with a different team. He claimed he had no choice but to sign with Avangard Omsk because the Blues refused to trade him. The Blues best offer was a one-year, $2.7 million contract. Sobotka sought a one-year deal worth $3 million, after which he’d become an unrestricted free agent. The club also made a two-year, $6 million offer but it wasn’t accepted. Sobotka’s three-year KHL contract pays him slightly more than $4 million per season, and continues an “out clause” at the end of each season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: In recent years most players re-sign with their respective teams before their arbitration hearings. Of the 23 players scheduled for arbitration hearings this year, six have already reached agreements on new contracts with their teams. It will be interesting to see how many more do so.

Sounds like Sobotka’s relationship with Blues management has been seriously damaged."

Blues wanted that extra money for Stastny.

    Vlad will be back!

Well this is interesting. As per NHL.com:

Forward Vladimir Sobotka was awarded a one-year contract through arbitration Monday, the St. Louis Blues announced. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports he will receive $2.725 million for the season he returns to the NHL.

Sobotka will play with Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League in 2014-15.

"We are looking forward to having Vladimir in a Blues uniform when he returns to the NHL," general manager Doug Armstrong said. "We wish him the best of luck in the upcoming season."

So it looks like he knows what he is scheduled to make when/if he comes back.

The Dallas Stars have avoided arbitration with forward Antoine Roussel, inking the 24-year-old to a four-year deal.

The deal carries an annual average value of $2 million. Roussel will earn $1.6 million in 2013-14 and will get a $200,000 raise in each subsequent year of the deal.

Invite to the Bruins training camp, gets assigned to Providence then gets sent down to Reading. Bunch of call ups after being signed to a two-way contract by Dallas and now has a 4 year NHL deal.

    That is perseverance!

For anyone wondering how much $$ O'Reilly may be getting, here is what he is asking for...as per TSN:

With salary arbitration on the horizon, Ryan O'Reilly is looking for a bigger payday from the Colorado Avalanche.

Two sources told Adrian Dater of The Denver Post on Monday that O'Reilly is seeking $6.75 million on his contract for next season - up $250,000 raise from last season - while the Avalanche want to pay him $5.525 million. An arbitrator can't award O'Reilly less than 85 per cent of his base salary of $6.5 million last season - which is the exact amount the Avalanche are offering.

    Up to the arbitrator now....
