Fine with me too, B's have plenty of youth & picks remaining. -

Only acceptable if Kaberle signs an extension with the B's at a cap friendly amount... -

Brutal if true! PC, we're the only team on Kaberle's list remember? Come on man, I'm not a professional scout but Colbourne and a 1st for a rental = Too much. -

100% accurate, JM!
Otherwise, too expensive. I would have preferred to forget the whole deal, go after a different D rental (i.e. McCabe) for a roster + 2nd or 3rd round pick, let him go as a UFA in July, then turn around and sign Kaberle for a cap friendly deal. -

All those against this realize that our 1st round pick is like a 2nd rounder. The draft if weak as well. Colborne is a piece you have to let go the other way.
Kaberle gives us a legit PP QB and a guy that will eat 20 minutes a game.
Very good move.
Now they likely look to add a scoring winger and we are set for a playoff run. -

Take out the 1st, and I can live with it. Although, I would still be unhappy about getting Kaberle. -

Kaberle would be our weakest defenseman in the D zone. He looks like Sharon Stone- old and used. He will help the PP for possibly 3 months, possibly more. Colbourne will be feeding the thrill apples for a decade. This deal is bad for the Bruins. We should sack up and get Bogosion. -

Too expensive for a rental particularly given that he picked Boston.
Even if he signs long term, I would have still liked to keep either the pick or Colborne.
I would have been fine with Wheeler, Ference or Stuart straight up. -

I'm wondering if Joe had scored say 18 points with the big club this year instead of 26 with Providence, if fans would be so sad to see him go. I think people here him compared to the old Joe and are afraid we're losing a superstar.
I liked Joe, to Me he was there most exciting prospect outside of Seguin, not Spooner, Knight, or Cross but I don't feel he is an untouchable. I do think Burke won this round, but I don't think it's brutal. -

With the addition of Seguin Colborne became expendable. He has potential, but as a center and Boston has their Centers locked in for the future. Saying that it still is a high price to pay for a rental. I hope Kaberle is open to a cap friendly deal.
As a side note, how long until Toronto promotes him to the NHL? Do they rush his development or do they let him finish the year in the minors? -

I have seen Colbourne play a few times this year for the baby B's. He is very soft on the puck and his skating leaves alot to desire out there. He is NO where near ready for the NHL as Chia said earlier this year and after seeing him play he is definitely right.
He is still a major project. I think the bruins were hoping hamill showed something and could have pawned him as the prospect in this trade. Hamill is toast no doubt about it. He was a bad pick by CHIA and his staff.
A late first round pick in a very weak draft usually does not pan out to be a difference maker. I went over the last couple drafts and looking at the later first round picks it was pretty bare especially in 2007 and 2009 where the drafts were considered weak.
In terms of kaberle, I think he will elevate his game when he gets paired with Big Z. I remember he and McCabe were an awesome tandem in TOR a couple years back. I feel Z will allow him to be able to pinch more and use his skating and passing abilities even more effective. -

I don't like a 1st round pick for this deal -- too much. Even a late pick could be a solid NHL prospect. If the B's are going to deal away a 1st round pick it should be for someone younger that also has potential. Would much rather see the B's traget Bogosian, even if it costs more. If Kaberle gets injured or doesn't re-sign, we've used a 1st rounder for nothing. If this is true, it is a rare case of Chiarelli over-paying, IMO. -

I like this trade... a lot. In Kaberle we know what we are getting. A d-man who posesses great offensive awareness. He may be weak on D but if paired with Chara that won't be a problem. In Colborne and the 1st rd pick you don't know what you are getting. Colborne could become a mainstay in the NHL or he could become a career AHLer. We know what we are getting. The only thing I don't like is that the B's need to make cap clearing moves. While I think Stuart will leave, there will need to be another trade. Don't know if I want Wheeler gone for nothing. He plays a good two-way game for this team. -

He's a RW too. He played there all through his college career. -

Deal won't get done unless the B's can clear more cap space--i.e. find someone to take Blake Wheeler or Mark Stuart off our hands (I'm hoping it's Wheeler)....another move would be nice even if it only nets a draft oick.
either way Kaberle and Kelly isn't nearly enough to get Boston out of the 2nd round this year. -

Let's put the trade in another perspective. The B's get a legitimate top pairing powerplay specialist defencemen who is still in his prime for a couple of years.
Toronto gets a project (Colbourne) and a late 1st rounder in a very weak draft. It is quite possible that neither of these will ever amount to much in the NHL much less be a star....
For what it is worth... -

Too much. Colborne is ok, but not the pick. Colborne and a second is more like it. As to whether he signs an extension or not... that's totally irrelevant. We could just sign him after July1, let somebody else pay the rental price. -

the kelly addition doesnt make sense to me, it forces PC to clear that cap space by getting rid of wheeler and/or stuart/paille etc. i don't neccessarily think that makes them better. I wouldnt trade wheeler for kelly straight up thats for sure. I'm hoping its a set up for something much bigger but if we add kaberle all other trades after that are salary in = salary out. -

My sentiments exactly. Colborne was the B's prospect that I was most excited about seeing. This is essentially two 1st rounders. I would assume the B's think they can sign Kaberle if they upped the ante. I hope Chia didn't fall for Burke's bluff! I still think we are going to do something for a scorer!
