Marchand's Deal Looks Better Every Day!

After seeing the Oilers give Sam Gagner 3.2M for 1 year to avoid going to arbitration, Marchand really looks like a bargain. Gagner was coming off of a 47 point season. At +5, it was his first year as a + player. His career high is 49 (in his rookie year). They'll both be RFA after next year and Marchand is about to outscore him for the 2nd year in a row but for 700,000 less.

You are correct, Finger was signed July 1st and BB came on board Nov 28th of 2008.Burkie signed a 6 year deal,so i guess he has a little bit of time to try and get the Leafs into the playoffs.

If PC can sign Marchand for...

    Under 3.5 = Steal
    3.5 - 4 = Market Value, IMO
    4 - 4.5 = Slight overpay ie Peverley, Boychuk
    Over 4.5 = No...just no

Re: Marchand's Deal Looks Better Every Day!

Chia won't need to be a complete magician to sign seguin, looch, Marchand, and rask. According to cap geek their combined cap hit for this season is about 13.1 million. Tack on 5 million for TT coming off the books and another 4 million if savard is moved to LTIR. That gives chia about 22.1 million to sign 4 players at an avg cap hit of 5.6 million...not saying they should all get the avg. if seguin goes off, then perhaps he gets to hat number in a multi yr deal and looch too (remember chia got Bergeron and krejci locked up at 5 and 5.25million). Task would really need to solidify himself as a legit number 1 netminder to sniff that and if marchands goal totals improve again them he may be worth it too, but for 22.1 to no be enough next year then that means they all go off this year (and I dont think any bruins fan would complain with that). If that does happen, then it becomes decision time on who to keep/move from the depth at center (ie peverly, Kelly, krejci - not that I'm about to start calling for trading any of these guys right now). In terms of a lower salary cap in the next cba, that just can't happen without a salary rollback on the players like last go around...too many teams wouldn't be able to field full teams if the cap lowered without a rollback so I don't see that as a major concern in being to afford these 4 guys next off season.
