The Islanders will soon put DiPietro on waivers:

Though I doubt there will be any takers I think this is the first step in the team buying him out in the summer.

Shocker! With only 23 more years left on his deal you think they would ride it out.

Maybe Milbury can hire him to mow his lawn

Best comment on the TSN article:
"DiPietro just tripped over the waiver wire, out 3-4 weeks."

Jacobs better do what he has to when PCs contract comes up.

I hear you, and you arent wrong, but it isnt his fault that he got offered a ludricrous contract. Are you faulting Savard for still collecting on his contract while he's doing nothing?
He's a local guy, so I always pull for them doing well.
I know i may be alone here and thats fine, but the guy has just had enormously terrible luck, cant fault him for that.

Is there some sort of advantage to doing this now? Seems odd.

Another great maneuver of Chiarelli's ? A pick like Spooner or KoKo for the future ?

@Doc - Well they only have 5 forwards signed next season, only have 2 defensman under RFA control. Snow probably wants to make a run at Thomas contract wise before the draft.

I'll say this about Di Pietro. When he was health and playing, one of the best goalies I have ever seen.
Good for us he isn't around, because he would have made them a consistant contender, much like Marty.

Only 8 years and $36 million remaining on his contract. I guess Snow wanted a replacement for Yashin in the longterm buyout column on his speadsheet....

Oh wait, I see now. He's not currently injured. Somehow that didn't seem real to me.

And the crazy thing is. Someone gives him a contract. He will likely play a good 10 gms. Get extended and then trip on the blue line and be out for 10 more yrs.
