    no touch icing change?

this is the best i can come up with....instead of "touching up", make the rule similiar to lacrosse. first player whose stick crosses the goal line earns his team a face-off in the oppositions zone. if the attacker's stick crosses first, stays in that zone deep. if the defender's stick crosses first, it comes back.  no touch icing, with a little excitement- this could even go to review

dauber...why leave it up to a refs judgement. they have to GUESS who will get there first. let the guys skate it out-whstle blows when the first stick crosses the goal line. it's not like it will hurt the flow of the game, 95% of the time the whistle blows, and the puck is brought back.

if you do sticks crossing the line, there is going to be just as much body contact as there is now

how so? they can be on opposite sides of the rink? and by going stick and not feet, it would give them a few more feet to stop.

unlike lacrosse, there is no out of bounds, there are hard boards a few feet away from that red line you would be sprinting towards

Yeah, and while we're at it lets change a bunch of other rules and just play f*cking curling instead.

I actually love the fact that a player can outrace another to negate an icing. Like many parts of the game,a little common sense and respect for your opponent could go a long way towards curbing injuries in this situation.
