    Re: NYI not tolling Thomas

    In response to Bookboy007's comment:

Has anyone see a link on this?  I find it strange that it isn't an NHL.com story or TSN.  I think it's odd given how stinky Nabokov was vs. the Pens (.842 save%?!?!) and that that team is probably a goalie away from being able to really compete in the playoffs.  If TT could give them one or two good years?  Take it.

Could mean they plan to be in on Luongo or something.  Leaf fans continue to think that they will eventually have Luongo as Vancouver looks to get out from under his contract, and that that will be their ticket next year.  The Isles are closer to that bar, if you ask me.

I still think this is a decision made recently and not at the time of the deal.  The deal's structure was set up around giving the Isles every chance to have TT play for them.  Maybe, as someone above mentioned, Snow finally talked with TT directly and got a message like "to be honest, if I don't make the Olympic team, I won't be that motivated."

As for TT himself, I don't think he has any interest in being a back-up.  He has to play and play a lot to be in the Olympic conversation, so he'd have to go to a team with very suspect goaltending.  The only teams I see as real fits are Colorado and Calgary...and the Isles who don't have a veteran under contract other than DiPietro.

doesn't mean they can't sign him now. However they can give him the 900K he's likely to get as opposed to the 3 million he was due.

    In response to Chowdahkid-'s comment:

I agree he will have more than a few as well. The GM that puts inquiries into Zito won't have to worry about Thomas sitting out because he won't be offered a long time contract. He could help teams that are right on the edge of getting into the playoffs like Colombus or Florida.

Wouldn't you be surprised that Columbus would be looking at Thomas after the year Bobrovsky had ? I'm thinking they'd be one of the last teams looking for a goalie.

Bobrovsky hasn't beeen very consistent .915% in 2011, .899% in 2012 and look what happened with Mason in Colombus. GMs like comepition and Thomas won't be expensive.

Take it to the bank T.T. has played his last pro hockey. He is content and doing well. Enjoying family, hunting, fishing, and watching cartoons with his beautiful children. He walked away while he could still walk, and his desicion was not based on his political beliefs. I am close family and we differ strongly on politics. Whoever claims to have sources claiming negotiations in the works, is not telling the truth. GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, hence the reason they will win gold!

Haha, sure they will.  Canada could put 3 teams in and win all the medals.

I would be pretty surprised if anyone picked him up.

    Pros:  Really good goalie

    Cons:  Total whackjob*, old, expensive

*All goalies are whackjobs (see:  nite, Kel et al) but he's The Whackjob of Goalies.

It's offical then...If he's a whackjob he's going to sign for the Leafs !  But maybe Canada is too socialist for him..might do him some good....he can get free health care !!

Ugh, I hate even saying this but the guys on Jets radio were saying a source from TNSE told them Cheveldayoff is very interested in pursuing Thomas if he'll accept a backup role to Pavelec.

If he thought Mass. was too liberal, wait until he gets to Manitoba.

According to Mackenzie/TSN the Isles could be interested in Leaky Lou, Dippy Dipietro going the other way for buyout purposes.Maybe Dipietro's contract is cheaper to buyout.

What?  Not in europe.  Did canadian skaters get slow all of a sudden.  St. Louis, jumbo joe, richards etc etc etc likely wont make it.  The nhl leading scorer likely wont be on the team.  We won with lou before.  Great goaltending got you a silver.  Avg goaltending won us a gold medal.

The allstars that will be left off canada will be staggering.  crosby, toews, taveres, bergie just for starters at center.  Canadas fwds are disgusting.  Our def is not as good in yrs past but will be littered with shea, drew, letang, keith, peiterangelo, pk etc etc.

price is one of the leagues best.   Cam ward if healthy, not sold on smith but hes been very good over last 3 yrs, jake allen from dez home province is an up and comer.

Canada doesnt need a quick- would be nice but not nec.

Crazy crazy talk.  We won dispite having lou.  Our team is better and deeper this year and will have the best coach in hockey behind the bench.

Ok Shupe whatever you say! We'll see at the end of Feb in 2014. We were loaded in 2010 & barely won. Lu almost cost us a gold because of his shoddy play. Price can't play half a season & be stellar in the play-offs. Ward if healthy maybe our best hope.

Smith, Crawford Ward will all be in consideration to back up Price who is an elite elite goalie, he had an off year and his team still got 2nd in the conference.  When hes on he is as good as any.  Goaltending is our weak spot and i wont deny this.  But our team upfront and on the backend is absolutely staggering.

Less than a year away.  I really can't wait.  The USA squad is going to be stacked.  I hate rooting against Bergeron and a few other of my favorites, but country before team!

Can't win if you can't stop the puck.  Quickie-cucumber will have no issue there.

If you look at the States, Russia, Finland, and Sweden, all of them have surperior goaltending. Canada's about on par with the Czech's. Heck even the Swiss could potentially have goaltending that's just slightly worse than Canada's.

We won with lou.  Check out our fwds.  We dont need an all star goalie.  usa easily have the best goalies but you cant dress all 5.

    Give me Price.

we have 10 centers that are better then your best center.  We have the nhl leading point guy who wont make our team.  He would be your best fwd.
