Paisano Legions new edition: Around the League part V

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=685136&navid=nhl:topheads

Toronto Maple Leafs at Philadelphia Flyers -- The Flyers open their season trying to bounce back after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2012-13. They're relying on newcomers like goaltender Ray Emery and defenseman Mark Streit, as well as holdovers such as Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell. Jonathan Bernier will get his first start with the Maple Leafs after James Reimer got Toronto off to a winning start with 34 saves in Montreal. Phil Kessel had an assist for the Maple Leafs hours after signing an eight-year, $64 million contract extension.

Buffalo Sabres at Detroit Red Wings -- The new season's first edition of Wednesday Night Rivalry (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN/TSN2) marks the Red Wings' return to the Eastern Conference following the NHL's offseason realignment. It will also mark the Detroit debut of offseason acquisitions Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss. The Sabres, who named Thomas Vanek and Steve Ott as co-captains on Tuesday, are trying to rebuild after back-to-back non-playoff seasons."

Eh Sabres and Red Wings don't have a rivalry but I'll take it. Ray Emorys second coming in Philly to begin tonight.

Weird schedule for Ducks and Avs - they only play twice this year, like all teams outside of their own divisions. But the two games are tonight, game 1, and game 82 on the last night of the season.

Opening night for the NHL should have been last Saturday night with the B's and Blackhawks headlining, and a few other big rivalry games scheduled as well.  The league does a crappy job of trying to showcase itself.  Someone on another thread mentioned that a Tuesday night opening night was lame - he's right, it is.

Can we end the regular season soon and get to the playoffs, already?

We've got to go through 82 bloody games! God help us make it to April without going nuts.

Wheats, I feel sorry for your wife....

I enjoy watching the games.  I like watching stories develop, teams gel, teams fall apart, unexpected and expected teams rocketing up or Parrosing down the standings.  The regular season is great.  I also like that I can miss games and it isn't a crisis - believe it or not, I gots sh-- to do, man.  By April, I'm ready for the games to mean something again, thoug, because by then, the regular season is pretty much played out and the players are no longer invested in the games - they're looking ahead, and you can tell.

    Are you not entertained?!?!

Colton Orr is animal, cross-checks Rosehill right in the face. What do the refs do ?- Escort both players to the box.

Rosehill is a knucklehead, why does he go hit Fraser with no puck ?  Well that's why he went to the box.

BTW with this title/subject some will stay away from this thread

Rosehill didn't cross check Fraser in the face, he hit him in the shoulder. Huge difference!

If this thread gets buried on the second page, we can always start another "around the league" thread. No worries Cool

Las Vegas, the new center of the Universe?

"According to reports, the 33-year-old Bryzgalov is close to signing with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL." - http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=433296

He must really want back in the NHL, as I can't imagine every KHL team passing on him. I guess you have a lot of choices when your old team is paying you $$$ not to play on their team any more.

There was a tweet from a CSN reporter (@LisaHillaryTV) that the Penguins were considering him a few days ago too. MAF and Bryz.....would not fill one with confidence heading into the playoffs.

It was kind of silly, but at the same time everyone in the building seemed to love it.

I know Roy is a bit emtional with a screw or two loose (eg. a goalie), but I am starting to think that maybe that was a little more calculated than purely spontaneous.  He's trying to get a young team to have energy and bond together, something they have missed in past years.

You're up 6-0 and Lovejoy throws a questionable hit on your 18-year old star while Getzlaf jumps a much smaller Steve Downie.  That stuff doesn't really bother me and I don't blame Boudreau, but when he puts out his 4th line with 5 seconds left, I think Roy sees an opportunity to let the guys loose and go a little wild himself.  Silly, but probably good for the team.

I can tell you that the building was rocking.  I think Roy is trying to fill the seats too.

I just saw the replay of the hit fletch, I don't see knee-on-knee, which I guess was Roy's issue  What did you think?

    [/QUOTE]

Didn't think it was knee on knee either, or really dirty for that matter.  But Lovejoy and MacKinnon had a thing going on all game, which seemed to bother the Avs.  I think Lovejoy tried to line him up at the end, missed the body, and so he tripped him instead.  No big deal.  Getzlaf jumping Downie wasn't really a big deal either.  But when Boudreau put out his 4th liners it gave Roy an excuse to do the same.  And when Perry chirped him from the bench, the hair-trigger Roy temper was primed to ignite.  I think he loved it.

I think Roy was waiting for anything to happen so he could flip out. I dont mind it, he's going ot bring the same passion he did when he played and he wants his players to bring that to the rink. Every night. It's not a bad thing in my opinion. Looks like he realizes what his teams strength is, and is going to play an up=tempo game. I like it.

Off subject a little bit, but anyone else suprised the Caps traded Perrault, and for Jon Mitchell? I thought they were pretty high on Perreault.

    Great deal for Anaheim.

Cap space so they could keep wilson up.  Someone had to go.  Fehr is now the 3rd line center.  They got a pick as well.  When grabo signed his fate was sealed.

Your right Shupe, I just like Perreault, and I know they were high on him. I think Grabovski and Mayson Raymond with the Leafs are two fo the better signings this off-season.

Perreault is reunited with bruce and will get plenty of chances to shine.  He has good skill and is good on the draws.    Grabo will do great. Raymond absolute steal.
