Rumour has it he wants a longer term then 7 years.

Doubt this is true. Thats a lot of poutine. He does have them for sure. If I were him after all the booing and mock cheering I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to leave. -

Nice one Isla and yah I'd take a look around as right now that locker room is a joke. I would say that their definitely would be a bidding war for Carey's services kids scary good at such a young age. -

Price deserves better than what the team in front of him gives. -

I don't blame him for rejecting the offer. We regularly read about players wanting to know which direction their club is headed regarding winning before entering into a new contract.
Right now the wheels have come off the Habs' organization from top to bottom so it's not a shock he's in no haste to commit. Perhaps not resigning might signal he wants to wait and see the path the team takes i. e., the stabilization of the coach and GM situations. -

I doubt the offer is true, but if it is, I can't imagine anyNHLer turning down a guaranteed $49M and instead focusing on the direction of the club. -

It still sounds like a lot of cash to turn down. I can't imagine him being signed to an offer sheet for anywhere near that. -

That was $7mil per year, right? Hrm. Seems like a fair deal. Either it's not true, or he wants to hit the market. It can't be for more money in MTL, because it seems reasonable - amount and length of term. -

$7 mil a year seems like an awful lot of money for Price. He's good, but not great. $7 mil ? I know he's young but he hasn't won anything yet. Luongo got big money from the Nuck's and look where thats got them. I know they were one win away from the Cup but if anything Luongo proved to be their undoing. -

Different times, but Kariya and Selanne left a lot of cash on the table to take short money in Colorado for a shot at the Cup. They were older than Price - 28 and 33 - but not Murtough-ing it on their way to retirement.
And hey, we've seen "hometown discounts" from players who liked their organization - why not a "wanderlust discount" for players who can't wait to leave for greener pastures? No way Price gets an offer sheet in that neighbourhood - Tuukka would explode of if that happened - but I'm guessing he thinks he won't lose much over the next 7 years is he ends up taking $5M for two years, gets to UFA, then gets his $7 for however long he can. Difference between $45M and $49M is huge in reality but less than 10% in the mind of a guy who still thinks rodeo is a fun way to kill time. You know...probably the victim of multiple concussions. -

Kariya took a monster pay cut to play with Selanne in Colorado, but Selanne's contract was just about right. -

Fair enough. It is a whopping amount. I was thinking in terms of him not wanting to remain in a situation that has presently devolved into a gong show. But yeah, it would be a tough pile of money to leave behind. -

dez - I'd stay! Seriously, athletes in recent years seem to recite that reasoning of going where they have the best chance to win. I was thinking perhaps this applied to Price. Still, that's $49 million whispering in his ear! -

I doubt it is true, when things go bad in Montreal, stuff gets made up. If anything, perhaps he wants to see what is done with the team in the off-season before commiting to anything. Can't blame him there. -

kel - The reported $ total is massive but I'd like to think the reasoning you mention would play some factor in any potential decison Price makes. -

RHO, I certainly understand your logic regarding seeing where the club is headed. I was just thinking the dollars sounded high for an RFA. I've seen crazier deals though I suppose. -

dez - As you said it's doubtful those numbers would be matched by some other club out there through an offer sheet. He'd be in Lundqvist/Luongo $ territory? -

Very few NHL goalies have won anything. TT had won nothing till last year.
Rinne and Ilya were given big cheese for nothing.
My Chara debate for MVP might be challenged by HL in NY and Price in Montreal. Price is an excellent young goalie. But the Habs are a train wreck and I don't see an immediate fix. Gut it. Build around Price/PK and hope their scouts turn things around. -

Epic turnover. If your name isnt PK or Price you better keep a phone near by.
They have no blue chip prospects that really can change their fortunes.
Gauthier and Randy are dead men walking. -

O.K i'll simplify it, i don't think he's worth $7 mil a year.As a matter of fact i don't really think he's that good, but that is just my opinion.I am likely in the minority on this subject, and lets not take into consideration that Carey hasn't won anything, personal or team wise. Has he actually been nominated for anything? -
