    I'm not a big fan of this deal, but that may change when I learn more about the coming parts - and if the cap space is used to sign someone useful.

    None of the players besides Eriksson seem worth noting.  Undecided

    Agreed Red. He's a first rounder with high upside. Wasn't he part of the James Neal trade?

    He was a 1st round pick #23 for the Pens.

    Fletch will have more info on Miami RedHawk Reilly Smith. I've only seen him a few times in college.

    Morrow is definetelyworth noting

    That's not Brendan Morrow ya know.

    So who is he and why is he worth noting?

    He's a solid puck handler, strong on the puck uses his strength very well and has great positioning. I saw him with the Winterhawks and loved his play. I think he just became our number two defensive prospect behind Hamilton - I'll give him the long term edge over krug because of his size. I usually don't go all fangirl over prospects but I'm really surprised we snagged him.

    It should scare you. It means your eyes are going. NHL.com lists him at 185 pounds.

    I trust the NHL as having more up to date, official stats. They are the ones who run prospect combines after all.

    Brutal,  not 1 is a top prospect,  Morrow neither, he is 5th highest paid prosp in our system, does not say a lot for him as a #23, 1st rounder.

    Do not like this even 1 iota, should have at least got Mac Dermid back.

    Absolutely freakin brutal.

    Re: Seguin for Loui Eriksson?

    wow too much traffic ! Seguin 21 years old , Eriksson 27 , bad start !  Morrow is supposed to be a good prospect (better than Button for sure) .  Reilly Smith maybe another Paille.  A wash ?  Too much upside wasted on Seguin.  I'm not happy.

    Then there's a biiger picture that has yet to transform,  that cap space they opened up. Can we see a major UFA signing tomorrow ?

    Judgment for me still out on this trade.

    Seguin got himself traded and I guess the rumors were right.

    Love the optimism, but 1 year of Alfredsson will not replace the next 15 years of Seguin for me.

    Can't help feeling like:

    Seguin = Thornton

    Sturm = Ericksson

    Stuart = Morrow

    Primeau = Smith & Fraser

    No problem trading him, expected a much better return.

    Shocker for sure,...rumors of partying I guess were true,...but I fear when he does grow up , he will be a force,...

    Heard Morrow is a decent prospect....Fraser though raw could be ok,...

    must be a signing pending ,....hope for Clarkson

     Hmmm...not sure how I deel about this.

    As of right now, did this trade actually make the existing team better? Seems kind of status quo with Seguin having the higher upside over Eriksson.

    If PC brings in additional parts via free agency before the season starts then the trade may look better. If not then I am skeptical this team is any better than it was pre-trade.

    And who is going to play RW now?

    eriksson is a very good player. this makes us a better team now. we'll see a few years from now how seguin pans out. the cap room and dumping pevs dog of a contract are a big plus.

    Agree.

    again Thorton trade freed up cap spacfe for Chara and Savard.  Pevs and Seguins clear cap for ..... ?  I'll wait to judge.

    How Seguin pans out? He did lead this team in scoring the last full NHL season as a 20 year old......

    Guys, maybe I'm rushing to judgement hear, but I think this is a much better trade than the Thornton trade - we got nothing back then. We at least grabbed Eriksson who can fill Horton's spot, we cleared up cap space for a FA, we just replaced Ference out of camp next year (if not better) with Morrow, and we'll see if San's predictions about Fraser pan out. I don't know about Smith.

    May be a wash, but we weren't going to use Seguin at centre anytime soon, and everyone and their dog were saying Pevs should just be bought out. And Button wasn't exactly making the lineup anytime soon.

    Just look at that young defensive core now - we're set on the blueline for a long time coming.
