    Simon Gagne Invited To Camp

If he can play 75% of the games at 75% of his ability, he'll be the steal of the off season at the expected $1M PTO contract.

I always liked him as a player but isnt he really injury prone at this point?

I guess if its a 1 year 1 mil then i dont see why not.

I will be very surprised if he makes it.  He hasnt been even a good player in a while.  If injuries hadnt set him back he would have had a heck of a career.

As long as he apologizes for getting healthy in 2010 and scoring the game winner against Rask.

    Can he backcheck ?

This has to be a favor to Saint Patrice!

I'm with Shupa, Gagne doesn't except assignment to Providence.

You never know but I don't think this will pan out into anything. Bs sure need some tweaking but it looks like it could be more band aid solutions.

Who saw this coming? I guess anything is possible and a year off to give his body a rest can't hurt but i think his ship has sailed. All the more power to him though and if by some stroke of luck he discovers the fountain of health and can stay off the injured list and contribute, i'd take him on the team. He did have good hands and could score goals.

    Why not?

I saw the thread and got excited just because it was some news that was Bruins related.

He could not make the team or he could be a pleasant surprise.

His last good season was 2010-11 so I'd be a little surprised if he makes the cut but he's worth a look.

Re: Simon Gagne Invited To Camp

I wanted to find a reason that this could work out, but it's pretty hard based on his last few years.  I thought, maybe it's a Western Conference thing?  LA's not an easy team to make; you're competing for prime ice with a lot of big, young players, and they historically struggle to score in the regular season.  Combine that with his latest injury woes and maybe you can say "he'll bounce back given the opportunity".

He didn't do much bouncing in Philly after he left LA, though, and now he's been off the NHL ice for nearly two years.   He's 34.  He's played more than 60 games in a season only twice since 2007.

I think this is typical of the Bruins - they like bringing in a vet who needs a shot to show he can still play.  Maybe it will be with the Bruins, but most likely, this is Samaritan stuff as it was with McGrattan.

I think it's highly unlikely that he will show well enough to tempt Chiarelli to sign him.  He might show enough to sign somewhere, but it's highly doubtful that it's Boston given the cap situation and the likelihood that he becomes dead LTIR money.

Even if he does play well enough to be tempting, in practice, he'll have to beat Chris Kelly off the roster.  I don't think he's competing against the kids or for a RW spot in the top six.  He's a LW.  He's not taking ice from Marchand or Lucic, and he's not going to outskate Paille.  That leaves Kelly next to the Yeti.  You might consider moving Kelly, I guess, but the odds are, to my mind, very bad.

    Are you not entertained?!?!

Yawn, does Cherrington (money ) run the Bs. Ok it is better than nothing. Cautious, does it always win in the NHL game?

I think if he is what MAS says, 75 percent healthy and play games, he makes a huge difference. He did score 47 and 41 goals in a season. and most recently was 34. so if hes healthy hes a plus for this team. Hope he makes it.

I think this is just a favor for Bergeron. Maybe Bergeron has been skating with him & he looks good. I don't see the harm in it. There's no negatives to letting him try out. What will his nickname be? Simone "The Great" does he have any Czar's in his bloodlines?

Well, let's see what he looks like in some pre-season games.

If, as NAS says, he's 75 percent, that could be 25 goals.  I'll take it.
