I would like very very much for the refs to just once call a dive but *not* the original infraction -- especially if it isn't a penalty-worthy infraction in the first place.  Then you'd see Montreal clean up its act.

But for some reason the refs don't mind that Montreal makes them look bad, again and again.

    [/QUOTE]

The best dive of the night was the one Rask took (uncalled; it was so obvious the ref didn't buy it. Good thing they aren't calling a dive when there is no original infraction.) Of course, a minute or so later, Brad Marchand of the "we don't dive" Bruins embellished a hit by Plekanec that sent the Montreal player to the box. Marchand, who has as bad a case of Selective Gravitational Affectiveness Disease as much as any player in the NHL, was not penalized on the play either.

At least you always have that one-note excuse to fall back on for those all-too-frequent episodes lately when Boston can't come out of a game with Montreal with both points.

In Emelins defense, the stick seemed to hit right under the package if you will. That part is not protected as we all know. Lucic knows this, thats why he hit him there. I'm going to guess if someone of Lucic size gave any of us a tap under there we'd all be on the ice as well.

I think the trouble with the Canadiens, and Emelin/Subban types, is that you run into the Boy Who Cried Wolf scenario.

I'm pretty hesitant to question whether Emelin actually got hit in the seeds or not, and if I had to guess, I would say that he did.  The reaction looked pretty spontaneous to me.

But it's also hard to criticize people's doubt, when you have seen so many episodes of theatrics from this team and these types of players.  The Canadiens go down easy, stay down, and similar to Vancouver, they base their game strategy on drawing penalties (they got worked 5-5 last night).  So some doubt is there when a guy drops like a sniper hit him while wearing a Habs jersey, rightfully.

That's what happened to Vancouver with the refs in the Cup too.  Canuck fans wonder aloud how any ref could watch Marchand speed-bagging Sedin and not call it.  Well, when you've seen enough nonsense, faking, and diving over 7 games, a ref might just ignore a legitimate one.

Sometimes crying wolf at every turn catches up with you.  For the homer patrol, we have seen this happen with Marchand -- he does not get the benefit of the doubt with the refs.  The refs (and Kennedy) should be catching on to Subban and Emelin too.

Exactly, and well said. From what I saw, and from what I know as an admittedly bad hockey player, a stick to the upper/inner thigh where you only have a thin layer of protection would hurt, bagtag or otherwise. But when the guy goes down like he was sniped, it's hard to buy.

So far today on satellite radio. Every single ex-nhl player they've had on said that Emelin WAS embellishing. 3 players said the it was an embarrassment the way the Canadiens were behaving. The only one that didn't have his diving suit on was Budji and Price. They said PK should've been more worried about playing hockey instead of pretending to be the zamboni. I'll take the word from ex-nhler's over anyone here.
