    Teddy Purcell's new deal = Marchand's?

Purcell signs for two years, $4.725M (cap hit of $2.36M).

    Purcell:  17-34-51 playoffs:  18gp 6-11-17

    March:  21-20-41 playoffs:  25gp 11-8-19

It doesn't get much closer than that, folks.

Looks about right. Make it happen, NAS, so we can all move on to something else. You have PC's cell, right?

Pretty good statistical comparison.  It's also in line with Wheeler's second deal.  Very likely what Marchand will see then, unless they decide to do something longer.

Another Marchand thread and from a poster that doesn't like him ??

With that being said it's a fair assumption of what Marchand will make.

    Wonder how many years though.

Yes -- a perfect comparison.  I hope the Bruins are making the same one in the conference room...

    A fair contract too.

NAS - I was thinking 3.5 per, but hey - this is the perfect comparable.  Chia won't be long flashing this deal to Abbott.  Nice work Stevie Y!!

Abbott may have delayed himself and Marchand into a reduced number. Certainly a solid comparison, which Chiarelli will use, and might sweeten it to $2.5 for 3 years, or a two year guarantee even with a lockout.

The Rat Part II likely will get in that neighborhood.  They may offer a little more to extend the term.  2.5+3+3.5.  Then UFA.  Works for all involved.

Has to be in the ballpark, no?  Term may push things one way or the other, but if so, I can't see it averaging out to $3M with this deal in the books.  They'd have to be buying a couple of years of UFA - so an $18M+ 6 year deal.  I'd rather follow the Purcell deal exactly and let him prove he can a) do it again, and b) stay on the straight and narrow - or just the narrow, given how much he seems to like kissing guys.

Marchand had more goals, and they were goals that led to a cup= more money. Nova Scotia out bids Newfoundland.

Then how do they award Campoli 2.5MM for 4 goals? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

    Re: Teddy Purcell's new deal = Marchand's?

Actually, I could see other factors meaning less money for Marchand - he doesn't have arbitration rights, for example, and Purcell is older and more experienced having grown over the course of parts of four NHL seasons and two seasons completely removed from the AHL.  So if the argument that goals=$$ is correct, then I'm guessing the two arguments would cancel each other out and we're back to pretty much equivalent.

Speaking of pretty much equivalent, as much as Marchand's scoring pace picked up once he moved to the second line with Bergeron (25 of 41pts in that 40 game stretch), that still only comes out to --- 51 points over 82 games.  Exactly like Purcell.  He ended with a less than impressive 7pts/20 games skid.  So if you think about it, he had that great run of 20 games in Jan and Feb where he put up close to a point/game (18 in 20), but was pretty consistent the rest of the year - about 15 points per 40 games.

Totally off topic, but here's your answer:

    He's a defenseman who averaged 19+ minutes a game.

Dang it, Fletcher!  I'll defend that one.  I was in a hurry, so I abbreviated it.  You know, saving those three letters made a world of difference.

At least it wasn't the stupid "Marshmont" that we have to endure every day from the SportsHub fanboys.

Unlike the rest of them ($4M!), this is a logical look at his value.

I think NAS has been huffing Stanley Cup Champions merch.  It would explain these lapses into fanboy-speak.

    Re: Teddy Purcell's new deal = Marchand's?

Not to end the thread discussion, but remembered this nugget from Marchand in one of KPD's articles:

“I think they got really cocky,’’ said Marchand, referring to the Canucks roster at large. “They thought they were going to roll over us. We hated them so much. We really did. Just so cocky. And we prevailed. We kept on working. It was just everything about them — the diving, hitting Horty [Nathan Horton], the whining in the papers. But you know, we took it, we went with it . . . stuck to our game, played our game, and won it.’’

It's rare to see professional athletes in the NHL wear their emotions on their sleeve like this, and the Bruins need a cult hero to take the pressure off the other guys. Especially now with Dr. Recchi gone.

I want to see this guy signed.
