I'm all talk, by the way.  I'm really not a loud mouth at games and not much of a taunter.  I'll just enjoy the game.  That said, I think I am really close to the Yotes bench, so you never know...

I must have missed the Sillivan thing...?

I thought BOTH players Torres & Quadier did it right. Torres game is his game. A lot like Marchand's, but with more jam! He's a pest & a yapper & he's dirty. I don't defend dirty players, but I do defend that they're willing to take some lumps back for their actions. As Shupe mentions, it's the punks that hide behind referee's & the league rules that I loathe more than anyone. Matt Cooke will take some lumps, but he hasn't taken no where near enough imo. In spite of that. I do have to say I'm surprised by his play this year. Up to this point, whatever he did in the off season & most likely is still doing them. It's working.

Adam Mcquaid is turning into one of the fiercest fighters in the league. I don't think there's many that want to take this guy on!
Yeah, Henrik's not very tough.  In his 847 game NHL career, he's missed a grand total of 10 games.  And he's the current holder of the Canucks iron man streak, with 537 consecutive games.  And as we all know, he's hardly ever on the receiving end of any slashes, cross checks or cheap shots. Not very tough at all.
    Posted by 49-North
Good Gawd! Really? You're going to call Henrik tough? Ryan Kessler would've been much more better to use as an example of being tough. Being an iron man doesn't constitute someone's tough! Doug Jarvis still the leading Iron Man was NOT tough. Steve Larmer was not tough! Cam Neely was tough!

These foolish remarks is what gets you into trouble in here. NO MAN who has a tough bone in his body takes 4 punches to the face from someone who's 6" smaller. I don't care how much he wanted to take one for the team & he's better served on the ice than in the box. It's not a sign of toughness to skate away from someone of Brad Marchand's stature! It's a sign of NO GRAPES whatsoever! At least in the sport of hockey it is! You're way out in left field to try & put the Sedins in the tough category North. I don't care if he never missed a game. That word is & never will be a word to describe a Sedin in the hockey world. Lastly? Not only is Adam Mcquaid tough? He's Maritime Tough!

So tough that he disappears at the biggest moment when things get physical.

You continue to measure tough by games played.  We will look at him like the dress-wearer he is.

There's different ways of being "tough".  Henrik takes crap all the time, and he puts up with it, because he knows that most times, the Canucks will get a PP out of it, and he runs the PP.  He's no good to the Canucks sitting in the box on a 4-on-4 because he's taken a retaliation roughing.  People have made the Jean Ratelle comparison, and it's appropriate.  Henrik takes crap, and just keeps playing, keeps racking up the points and the consecutive games played, despite the slashes, highsticks, cross checks, etc.

It's not "Cam Neely tough", but if anyone thinks Henrik is weak, then they don't watch him play.

Torres, despite a bruised face, clearly did not learn his lesson.  He took an ugly elbow shot at Hejda tonight, behind the play.  Then he ducked McLoed and O'Brien requesting fights the rest of the game.  Just a bad guy.

*I'll admit that I only saw the play live at the game, so if the hit wasn't as bad as it seemed, just disregard...

The question you never seem to answer is why no one on the Nucks ever comes to the Gazoo twins defence. I can buy that they're not agressive players and the Nucks don't want them off the ice and all the other excuses but what about tough guy Bieksa, or Alberts, or Kesler ? There comes a time when a team has to say to heck with the penalty i'm going to stick up for my captain but from what i've seen nobody does. Its like the bully kicking sand in the face of Thelma and Louise and they do nothing and the bully just laughs and walks away. Maybe the twins should cut the order form from the back of their comic book and send for the Charles Atlas workout.

I happened to catch this on the hi-lites this morning. Does Torres have the brain the size of a pea ? Back to back games in which he hits a player up high .

I heard a quote from Ryan Miller saying that there are a handful of players in the league who play the game to hurt people. Torres is definitely one of them. A Matt Cooke - Marc Savard type of hit ( at a slower speed ) which is putting him up near the top of the list with players who play the game this way.
To riff on one of my favorite Joe Pesci speeches in "Casino" to the banker holding his money: Quaider (as Pesci, to Torres): " You know, maybe I should explain myself.  Exactly what it is that I do.  For example, tomorrow I'm gonna wake up, eat breakfast and go to the morning skate.  If you are on the ice, Raffi, I'm going to bash your nose in.  And in 3 months, when your nose is all healed up, I'll be coming out of my suspension and I'll bash your nose in all over again.  Cause that's what i do. I'm stupid. I ain't scared of suspensions."

Just saw the hit.  Sure Hejda was on his knees but that was a late late hit.
At this point Torres has to layoff the hit instead he again drops his shoulder into Hejda head.  No no.
You know, I'm not always the biggest fight guy, but wasn't that great? The perfect example of why fighting stays in the game and how it should be done.  There was a purpose, there was real anger, and there was an immediate consequence for a dirty play. In Montreal and Vancouver they may gasp and turn hysterically to the league to come in and intervene, but this Boston team seems perfectly content to serve out their own justice.  Should Torres get suspended for a game?  Perhaps.  Does it really even matter to me?  Not really.  Crime and punishment, dolled out at the same time -- isn't it great?

Like I said before, i agree to an extent. There's Cam Neely tough, but there's also Jean Ratelle tough. And you sem to think that the twins play Ratelle tough. But Ratelle could do that, play a getlemanly within the rules, durable and consistant game, drawing out penalties and never getting dirty - which is a hard way to play the game, and I respect him as one of the few guys who could pull it off - because either the Rangers or Bruins ALWAYS had his back. You did not screw with Ratelle and everyone in the league knew it. It's the opposite with Vancouver. Everyone messes with the Sedins because they know no Canucks will respond. They may be tough in their own way, but why doeswn't anyone have their back?

The reason could very well be is that their teammates feel if their not man enough to stickup for themselves AT ALL in any moment? The rest of the Nuks may just say the  "the heck with the 2 of you. Grow some grapes, or you're on your own.
