We might need to start a thread like this for some other teams soon. Taking a look at the remaining schedule, and there are a lot of teams with zero chance of making the playoffs yet not many are connecting the dots yet.

Take a peek at the Caps schedule. They might win 5 more games all season!

yeah, the Caps will have to go on a major winning streak if they hope to make it,likely not, meaning Addie Oates will be down the road.

Burrows with his first 5 goals of the season in the last week or so. Way to leave it to the last minute Alex!

    Thanks for showing up.

It's official. Cancel the Stanley Cup riots for another year. The people  of downtown Vancouver thank you MIke Gillis.

    http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/01/report-tortorella-will-be-fired-thursday/"

For the second time in as many years, John Tortorella will be shown the door, according to TSN’s Farhan Lalji.

The controversial coach was brought in to make the Vancouver Canucks a better postseason squad after back-to-back first round exits under former bench boss Alain Vigneault. Instead, Tortorella’s Canucks failed to make the playoffs entirely and will reportedly be fired tomorrow.

Vancouver averaged just 2.33 goals per game in 2013-14, which put them ahead of just the Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres in the NHL. A lot of that was due to the decline of the Sedin twins, who combined for just 27 goals and 97 points after Daniel Sedin alone topped that total in 2010-11 and Henrik Sedin did so in the previous campaign.

That’s not to suggest Tortorella was an innocent victim to Sedin’s decline though as his desire to have them focus more on blocking shots and killing penalties might have contributed to their offensive struggles.

Assuming the report is true, Tortorella’s firing would be another major step in the Canucks’ efforts to reinvent themselves. In the last two months, they’ve traded goaltender Roberto Luongo, fired GM Mike Gillis, and appointed Trevor Linden as the team’s new president."

With Vignault winning a game 7 last night, it sure looks like the Rangers made out better in the coach swap.

Of course, if you ask me (it could happen), the Rangers actually had a good roster to work with while Tortorella inherited a mess in Vancouver.  Either way though, Torts was a disaster this year.

Torts canned with 4 years and $8M left on his contract.  That's the cost of a fresh start.

Torts can get a real nice deal on a Yacht, with his buyout money, in Woods Hole. Just sail around the Vineyard and Falmouth, enjoy some of that retirement money.

Some time off will do him good.

Unbelievable they buyout the coach for $8m. Who's next? The Sedins?

The Sedins are popular there and I've read they like it there as well. Have to keep the fans coming even during a rebuild, so I would say "NO" on trading the twins.

The Nuck's bought out the remaining 4 yrs on Gillis's contract and they bought out the remaining 4 yrs on Torts contract but Aguilini wasn't willing to buy out the remaining 30 yrs on Leaky Lou's deal, its the price you pay for not being smart.

They're the faces of that franchise, San. I don't see them going anywhere but if they were to be moved, who on that roster do you see as inheriting the role of being the player(s) tagged as franchise face?

Re: The Canucks are finished thread

I doubt the Sedins get moved, but if they were to, the only place that would make sense for me is Washington. They have to do something, and bringing them in to play on a line with Ovechkin would be something. Not sure how it would work cap wise but they'd have the pieces in Johansson, Backstrom and perhaps they get Vancouver to take Green.
