    The WEST a deadline cooler

Given the standings at the All Star Break, only one team is really out of Playoff contention.  That is going to make it very difficult for teams in the East to acquire players at the deadline.
I was praying we would find a way to get Ignila. That looks like a pipe dream at this point.

that's today's nhl. there is so much parity that you don't have alot of sellers. it seems to get harder and harder for gm's to make blockbuster deals at the deadline.

That's exactly what the CAP was intended to do. One measure of Chiarelli's ability is the manner in which he assembled a team with new and younger blood every year, and is now cementing his core for the future, and stocking the pipeline. If the players he assembles play as well as they are capable, think of Horton's first ten games; Chia will have a winner. He did not know , when he gave Timmy a 5 mil contract, that Timmy would tear his hip, nor did he expect Rask to play as well as he did last year. Timmy is now proving the value of his signing and Tuuka is in the learning slot as planned two years ago. He did not expect Savard's concussion problems, so now he is working to minimize the impact. This is intelligent planning and management. Would you rather have Ottowa or New York's management?

Sam - Look at it the other way. It's could be an opportunity to get someone from the west to waaaay overpay for something you may well afford to sell.

Iginla? Love him, don't see him coming here without the Bruin's being gutted, and given how many contracts the Flames have signed there is almost no way to make the trade work without turning it into a messy and ugly three way trade.

Western teams trying to get into the playoffs will overpay that is correct. You will see allot of moves made by teams out west trying to get in.
