Timmy vs. Timmy last season to this season

After 16 games (roughly 20% of the season) last season TT was 10-1 over 12 starts with 4 shutouts and a paltry GAA of something like 1.5. I don't have his save % but it was phenomenal all season. That great start of the season put much of the "trade Thomas" talk away.
After 16 games this season he is 7-4 over 11 starts with 1 shutout and GAA of 2.09. He has a save % of .927. Not too shabby and his W-L record would be better if the team didn't play so badly in front of him to start the season.
Just thought it was an interesting comparison. He has been good this year but man was he amazing last year. It's probably not reasonable to expect a repeat of last year but I fully expect he will go on a hot streak sooner or later and play even better than he has so far. -

Last year's start was borderline pornographic. I don't think we are likely to see that again. -

Hey Walk? What we witnessed last season was one for the ages. I'm 43 & been waching hockey since I was 2 according to my parents. Without being biased I can honestly say that I have never seen a goalie do what Timmy did last yr. From his 1st game to his 82nd. There's never been a goalie that did what Timmy did. If it happens again I hope I get to witness it again. Thomas put himself with names that nobody thought he could do. I have been one TT's biggest fans & I NEVER dreamed he would do what he did. Winning a cup with TT in the nets is what I wanted. I would've been happy with Rask in there too, but u know what I mean.
I am by no means saying Thomas is in these guys strataphere's, but he did something that Roy, Brodeur, Dryden, Fuhr, Hall, & Sawchk didn't do. The ONLY goalie that matched TT's season is Bernie Parent in 73-74 & 74-75. Back to back Conn Smythe's, Cups & Vezina's. This is what makes TT so special. Not only did he take the hard road, but he did it when almost EVERYBODY else said he couldn't! I don't think anyone expects Thomas to repeat what he did. But I bet TT will still be a Vezina canadiate. -

nite - Tim didn't become an NHL starter until he was like 32. If he can put together a few more seasons at vezina or near vezina level he will be in the same league as all those guys you mentioned and a hall of famer. He's truly an incredible story. Like you said, he took the hard road. Vermont, the ECHL, a couple stints in the I, 2 trips to Finland sandwiched by AHL stays. Sweden once too, I think. That's one determined dude! -

Last year he saved 94% of shots from the season through to the end of the playoffs, and that was an NHL record. Pretty hard to do that again, but he is the only one to do it a first time. This year he's at just under 93%, which is usually where the best goalie in the league is. Not bad at all. -

Thomas' greatest motivator...........the doubters. And they are still around, though a little less vocal after last years performance. The guy simply loves to prove people wrong.....and I love that he does it! -

Well I think that too, but I cant say that because I'd be accused of drinking too much kool-aid. I think if TT can win another Vezina, or capture the Crozier one more time. He'll have a legit shot at getting in the HOF. -

Most of the goals against for Thomas and Rask at the start of the season were very poor play by his teammates in front of him. Just sayin'! -

Timmy has benefited from Claude's defense first, and Claude's system has benefited from both Timmy and Rask. As long as there is solid defensive play, these two goalies perform very well. Keep in mind the reality that Timmy is older than most; his style is more dependant on flexibility and athleticism than most; and his contract, which a large number panned, becomes more trade friendly as each year goes by. -

I will buy the TT Kool-Aid.
I will mix the TT kool-Aid.
I will drink the TT Kool-Aid.
I will pour everyone and anyone a glass of TT Kool-Aid, with a shot of Tuuka, and be proud to do so with zero apologies. -

One of the things that was so enjoyable about the Stanley Cup run last year was watching Thomas on and off the ice (interviews). He looked like he was having blast -- that he felt no pressure and was just having the time of his life. That's why other goalies choked and he didn't. Even after losses, you could see he wasn't rattled. It was amazing to watch. -

After last night and this latest shutout he's pretty much back to last year's level. Ahead in GAA, a hair behind in Save %. -

OatesCam - beat me to it. I was thinking there's nothing like back to back shutouts to put you back into the goalie porn industry. 1/100 of a point behind his s% from last year, .23 better in GAA, fifth in the league in wins and first in shutouts (tied). Hard to top that start from last year, but matching his year end numbers would tie him for the best statistical year since s% became a stat. Awfully sweet, especially after skimming that site of Bruin goaltenders over the years. Some made me nostalgic, but a whole pile of them made me appreciate that the Bruins may have their best goaltending tandem...ever. Moog/Lemelin? Nope. Cheesy and Gilbert? Tough call. Brimsek and Tiny Thompson combined for a 1.56 GAA in '38-'39....
Appreciate this. The days of looking to "get something" for Thomas while his value is high or of dealing Rask before he gets pouty should be over. Best goaltending tandem the team has ever had. Enjoy it.
