"The Washington Capitals made a big move just before the 2013 NHL Trade Deadline passed, adding Martin Erat and Michael Latta from the Nashville Predators for 2012 first-round pick Filip Forsberg."

Caps could make it in, like this trade.

    Fluto's take on this:

    Thursday’s possible lineup:

    Milan Lucic-David Krejci-Nathan Horton
    Brad Marchand-Rich Peverley-Tyler Seguin
    Jay Pandolfo-Kaspars Daugavins-Jaromir Jagr
    Daniel Paille-Gregory Campbell-Shawn Thornton

    Zdeno Chara-Dougie Hamilton
    Matt Bartkowski-Dennis Seidenberg
    Andrew Ference-Johnny Boychuk

Daugavins centering the 3rd line with Pandolfo?

$6 million left in cap space for the season.

No one was available, however temporary?

Pandolfo to Jagr.  Music to my ears.

Cap space or not it seems that the asking prices were pretty high plus the B's 1st or 2nd round picks were tied up in the Jagr deal.

I just hope PC knows Patrice will be back, which nobody can be sure, but he counted on Horton being back for last years playoffs and we all know how that worked out.

To me the Gaborik move is the most surprising.

The Jackets go through all that effort to get rid of Nash just to trade for Gaborik 35 games later?

    what was the point?

    Rick Nash signed thru 2018.

Marian Gaborik signed for one more year.

Term matters.  Do You think they will have any trouble selling this guy off next year if it does not work out.  Term is every bit as important as annual cap hit.

Yeah, great forward thinking by Columbus,if it works out fine, if not some team will overpay at next years trade deadline. Seeing as the B's have a Czeckoslovakian mafia started in Boston Gaborik coiuld be headed to the B's at some point.

and the czecks make great, great beer!

Yep. In short, our third line is still a mess and somehow the one guy who is arguably having the worst season for the B's got promoted to center the 2nd line.....lol.

To put Jagr with Pandolfo and Daugavins is a waste of time. Then going after Redden is underwhelming. If thats  the case I would have said they aren't any good D out there, and picked up a Rafi T or Chimiera from the Caps. Now u better hope Mcquaid and Kelly come back. I am not worried about Bergeron he will be back before the playoffs.

To me the biggest question mark is McQuaid..no talk about him or any timeline as far as I know.

Dog - me too.  I think Erat is under-rated after having once been over-rated.  Out of Nashville, he may just help the Caps considerably.  I know Ovechkin would love a shot at Malkin and Crosby in the first round, too.  Also agree on Columbus - they had a good day and could track down Detroit or St. Louis (more likely Detroit, but with 12 games to play, they'll have to be en fuego).

jm - I like to see them use every dollar of Cap as much as the next guy, but who else to play where?  If the third line is Peverley-Kelly-Jagr by the end of the month?  Torres would have been more of a banger, and maybe that would have helped.  Most of the other guys that moved were rich acquisitions, and I'm not sure there were a lot of other deals to be made - though I am surprised that Calgary didn't move anyone else.

Once Kelly, McQuaid, and Bergeron back this team will look very different.

Might have to wait till the 2nd or 3rd round ,it looks like they'll catch the Jets for the division lead.

This kind of bothers me too.  Add Savard's salary and it is over $10M.  Just seems like a more could have been, including taking on a bad contract and doing an amnesty buyout in the off-season.

This is two years in a row where they have left money on the table, they aren't the Yotes.

I think the leftover money in partly a sign that better players weren't necessarily available - just richer ones.

I hope one day that a rich Oil Baron from Oklahoma wants a new toy n scoops up the Preds so they can spend to the cap at least. Sick of these Tom Werner types (when he owned the Padres) that just grab every last dollar out of a franchise for 5 or 6 years then dump it.

Pitkanen injury just might seal the deal for Oates catching the Canes.
