TSN 2013 Draft Rankings and other hockey filler

In the absence of NHL hockey, makes perfect sense to talk about a draft that is only 9 months away!  Just like having a baby.

I always give a little more credence to McKenzie because I think his contacts will be more honest with him and are better placed than almost anyone else.  And he does this pretty much as a scouts poll even though his opinion might have some value or at least hold some interest.

As I was reading this, I saw that they're also providing highlights packages for KHL games!  Wacky.  I wonder if Bill Daly is going to call and ask what an official NHL rights holder thinks it's doing by broadcasting content that could lengthen the lockout?

Jones, Pulock and Roy are the only ones I've seen tons of talent but raw. The neglect of college defensman on these list is an abomination I swear!

I've only seen Jones play in person once, but he grabbed my attention immediately. You almost felt sorry for the guy who had to skate down his side of the ice. Reminded me a bit of Pronger.

I haven't seen Jones play but I know Nathan MacKinnon is the real deal.

I wish I lived in Canada so I could at least watch some OHL, WHL or the Q. Maybe a trip to watch Knight and Spooner is in the cards.

nrguy, I heard on CBC radio this morning that they're in negotiations with the CHL to potentially carry games from the Dub,O and Q this year, so you may be able to get your fix that way (cbc usually live streams any hockey games they carry online)

Also, I'm guessing you're nowhere near Michigan, Oregon, Washington or Pensylvania? All have good CHL teams.

Unless you were expecting Doogie Howser, most of those guys are too young to be playing college hockey.  Though you're right, a lot of those mini-me college defensemen could pass themselves of as high school underclassmen.

I just purchased some AHL, OHL and WHL game packages. Have been watching the online games for a few years and I have to say it has been real good reception but that really depends on your connectivity.

@Book are you say a a 5'9" Hunwick/Kampfer like undrafted college defenseman won't rise to the top of the NCAAs this seaon ?

How are they going to do the draft this time when the season gets cancelled?

Will the Oilers get yet another first overall pick?

Re: TSN 2013 Draft Rankings and other hockey filler

"As a lockout cancelled the games of the 2004–05 NHL season, the draft order was determined by lottery on July 22, 2005. Teams were assigned 1 to 3 balls based on their playoff appearances and first overall draft picks from the past three years. According to the draft order, the selection worked its way up to 30 as usual; then instead of repeating the order as in past years, the draft "snaked" back down to the team with the first pick. Therefore the team with the first pick overall would not pick again until the 60th pick. The team with the 30th pick would also get the 31st pick. The new CBA reduced the draft to seven rounds in length, compared to nine rounds in years past."

Hated having to look that up Lashoff, Kalus, Lehtonen, Sigalet and Wacey Wabbit seleted by the Bs in 2005. MOCs scouting staff somehow luckily salvaged a bit with Sobotka a compensatory pick. Big wiff when you consider the 2004 and 2006 draft by the Bruins.

Re: TSN 2013 Draft Rankings and other hockey filler

Wouldn't they do a weighted ballott like last time? All the teamswere given 1, 2 or 3 lottery balls based on their playoff appearances and first overall draft picks over the previous three seasons. Under that system Edmonton would have one lottery ball, Columbus would have 3, Boston one, Toronto 3, Montreal 2 etc. So every team would have a shot at number one but teams like CBJ, Jets, Leafs, NYI would have the best chance at first overall.
