    Nice work Vancouverites.

    You don't deserve a championship.

    Losers.

Don't worry we'll win the championship next season.

Still if I had to choose between winning the Stanley Cup and The Olympic Gold that we won as Canada in 2010, I'll take the Gold Medal.

Anyway, I'm happy for the Canadian boys from the Bruins. Which is the only small amount of joy I can take from this result. Boston played better Hockey during the Finals. As the scores attest to. So there you have it.

But Don't take any pleasure in violence and destruction. As you decent to the level of those perpetrating the said violence and destruction by doing so.

Like how old are you to have feelings like that 14? Be a gracious winner.

If there is one thing Boston has learned over the last century it's how to lose gracefully when it comes to their sports teams. In fact, people didn't start to die here until after a Boston team won it all (Sox in 2004, in particular).
There is no excuse to destroy your city if your team loses its championship. What does it gain? Does anyone honestly believe that looting a store, burning a car, flipping a car over, or destroying property (or worse) will somehow, magically make the team play better?
No, it won't. What it will do is raise your insurance rates through the roof, assuming the government decides to put money back into the area to rebuild it (not a guarantee).
I'm not saying that some of the Boston fans out there last night didn't do things I believe they shouldn't be ashamed of, but as far as I can tell, the damage, if any, was minor. Please note that I consider, even this, to be immature, but I can say with an honest look in my eye that if Boston had lost, there would not be a burned, ravaged city left in its wake.

Re: We Are Happy...While Vancouver Burns

LOL. Actually the insurance is a nightmare as it is and I can't even begin to think of how bad it would be if nobody died.

What I meant was that the first person I can recall that died during a gathering of fans in Boston after a championship was won was when the Sox won in 2004. I forget her name, but a college student died when she was hit by a paint pellent.
That insedent set the tone for Boston police when it comes to sports teams winning their championship. Ever since then, if crowds are allowed to gather at all, it's for a limited amount of time, and they will completely cover every inch to quickly pounce on anyone making trouble.
In short, you don't hear about riots in Boston because the police won't let the crowd get to be that organized in the first place. And it's all because, in 2004, someone did try to start a riot by scaring a police horse (while the cop was on it), leading it to start to buck, throwing the officer off of it, and then having the cops fire their paintball guns toward the guy only to have one hit the college student in the one place that isn't hard enough to stop it. A one in a billion shot, and she died.
Like I said, the cops have since taking the steps to prevent the crowd from getting organized enough to be a threat to them.
Sadly, though, I still shake my head when it comes to stuff like this. For those of us old enough to remember when Boston couldn't hope to win a championship, you know you would never start any trouble like that after a game, win or lose.

People, a small portion, showed up with masks, goggles and gas. A minority was preparing to riot, win OR lose.

However, lets not lump the whole city into this disgrace. Volunteers showed up, in droves, to help with the cleanup, many wearing their Canucks jerseys. On one store, a fan put a handmade sign that basically said "From a citizen of this city, and a fan of the Canucks, I'm sorry." People were lined up to put their name on the sign.

It is, however, a disgrace the police were onot prepared given what happened in 94. They should've seen this coming, and were wholly unprepared. THAT is the big disgrace to me here. Boston had full squads in riot gear just waiting on Causeway street. As the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Don't let there be a third time.

Its a bunch of young, spoiled, entitled brats that are doing this.  Not a city or a people, but a generation of idiots who have no sense of respect or honor, but a sense of entitlement because their parents didnt raise them right.  Simple as that.  This would ALMOST certainly happen anywhere else.  Especially in a place thats never had a championship and has been told since BEFORE the start of the season that theyd win it all.  What do you expect when you give spoiled rotten 20 year old brats free reign and alcohol?  Add to that the lack of class that the team showed during these playoffs with their dirty plays and smack talk, and youre just inviting this to happen.  Shut down the city and let everyone overrun the streets, yeah, sounds like a great idea to me.  Jeez, NOBODY saw this coming.

To blame the riots on hockey fans is just plain wrong. There is a growing anarchist movement in Vancouver. They are to blame. It's what happens when a semi-socialist society runs out of money. As soon as the freeloaders stop getting other people's money they steal it.

Well, those anarchist uniforms sure look an awful lot like Vancouver Canucks jerseys from the pictures I have been seeing.

If Vancouver would have had Tim Thomas on the streets after the game the riots would not have happened cause Thomas stops everything.

First, I think you can't put this on just one generation, or that it's because of anything endemic to this particular generation. Hockey riots happen in Canada, and have for a very long time, going back to 1955 and the worst riot in Canadian history, the Richard Riot. Blaming it's cause on the traits of one particular generation is far too simplistic and misses the point.

As does blaming it on anarchists or the economy. These "anarchists" aren't actual anarchists - they'e just idiots who get kicks out of violence and property destruction. That's not anarchy, it's hooliganism. Plus a few of those twits may have started it, but those were Canucks fans that were ultimately burning cars and looting stores.

Also, tartarus, the BC economy is humming along right now, and is in pretty good shape, particularly in the Lower Mainland. That is certainly not a root cause for this.

M17, I saw a buch of rioters in Canucks jerseys too. I'm familiar with the "mob mentality" but can say with a straight face, that if I see someone set a car on fire, I won't feel compelled to join in.

I started a thread that I hope will show the difference between the anarchists and the true, gracious Nucks fans. Its the least I can do.
