21st pick with 31 goals in his rookie year, 18 goals in a 44 game strike shortened season the next season and then traded the next in the Stevens trade. Kinda perplexed on this one.

Did Smolinksi not fight enough perhaps ?

Patrick Traverse is a good one. Al Pederson is the definition of mediocre and I'd throw in a Brian Curran.

Re: Who are the 3 top most mediocre Bruins of all time?

I'm not sure what "most mediocre" even means, to be honest.  Seems like an oxymoron.  I mean, if you take it as "ordinary" to "inferior", guys who made the bust list shouldn't be here - Casey wasn't mediocre, he was awful, kel.  Ditto Zhamnov.

I thought about doing something with the numbers - 1050 or so Bruins all time, the median for games played and the median for points or something like that, but then you quickly realize that the vast majority of that 1050 is guys who played under 20 games and scored 4 or fewer points.  If you limit it to guys who played 80+ games (because guys who played less are either too bad to be even mediocre, and to be "most mediocre" for the Bruins, you almost have to be mediocre in Boston for a long time), then the median is something like 220 games played.  So...here's a few suggestions for guys who were good enough to play in the NHL, just not very well, but for long enough to play more than two full seasons in Boston.

    David Shaw

    Rob Zamuner

    Darryl Edestrand

    Jim Weimer

    Lorne Ferguson

    Murray Henderson

Bruce Crowder (good call on that one to all who listed him!)

    Charlie Burns

    Andre Savard

    Nevin Markwart

To be honest, I think the top 3 probably should be reserved for guys in that era immediately before the arrival of Bobby Orr when the Bruins and their leading scorers, outside of Bucyk, were guys like Murray Oliver and Tom Williams.  That seems like as good a definition of mediocrity as any: second to fourth leading scorer on a perennial sad sack.  Not so bad that, if given more ice time than you really deserve, you can't put up a few points, but not so good that any team with an ounce of hope would give you that ice time.

Re: Who are the 3 top most mediocre Bruins of all time?

...also, the fact that almost no one has any idea who some of these guys are is a good sign they were mediocre.  Neither good enough or bad enough to be memorable.
