Burkie has just sunk his chops into the Flames.

Teams with players subject to offer sheets beware!

One of his targets could be either Dougie Hamilton or Torey Krug.

Yeah who would have guessed?? Burke will announce this at the press conference along with the usual " the Flames will be built with players that have the requisite testosterone, truculence, tenacity, pugnacity, beligerence & bloodthirst" and with that the Flames announce they have acquired Dion Phaneuf for Joe Colborne, Matt Stajan & a 2nd round pick.

Flame fans should be happy. Say what you want about Burke, they guy knows how to build a team. Bet they make the play-offs before the Oilers do.

He does, moreso than say the Oilers but with every good deal you can mix in some real bad, like the Komisarik & Grabovski deals. Itis good though in the sense the Flame/Oiler rivalry will heat up.I can see it now,Burke & Lowe will meet at the Sutter barn in Red Deer and settle their feud once and for all!

What is shocking is how long he kept his job after the O'Reilly offer sheet.

Can't deny the success in Vancouver, Anaheim and finally Toronto.  People will load up on all of the reasons he wasn't a factor, but my ears are deaf to that because I'm a huge Brian Burke fan.

I bet Calgary is relevant in less than five years.

I wonder what he does first. Not many chips to play with here, perhaps Cammaleri could be dealt. Not sure if he'll blow it up, but I bet he's real active come the off-season.

Your bet should be pretty safe Nas as their irrelevant now, anything Burke does should be an improvement.

I'm mixed on Burke. I think much of his success has to do with picking his spots to come in and fix things. "Nowhere to go but up" philosophy. Then he deals in volume, making tons of moves. Some stick. Some miss. He wins the laws of averages.

Not saying it's a bad technique, but seems like he's always way more active than other GMs.

GUYS ~ let me refresh your memory, Iginla actually did the Bruins a HUGE favor by opting out for Pittsburgh. as PC had a deal with Feaster to trade ~ Alex Khokhlachev, Matt Bartkowski, and a first-rounder. It was Jarome that thankfully nixed the deal at the last minute, opting to join Crosby in Pittsburgh.

Ironic with Wilson and Burke gone the Maple Oafs became the aggressive team Burke famously stated they'd become with him at the wheel.  I still think three and a half years wasn't enough time for him to get Toronto to where he wanted them to be - especially with upper-management MLSE restructuring themselves two years ago.
