6 Roster Spots - who to get?

We currenlty have Pierce, Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Jermaine O’Neal and Avery Bradley signed to contracts.  Jeff Green is a restricted free agent. JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore were drafted and have yet to agree to contracts.

Who can we sign and who will help us?

Resign Green, West, and Baby. GO AFTER DeAndre Jordan, Dalembert, A.I., Redd, Grant Hill, Marquis Daniels, and why not take a shot at Crawford, Young, and J.R. Smith.

    West Green  Baby

That be a very nice team not to old not inexperienced  with so many back to backs I like a lot of depth at every position

I like Jordan and Dalembert!  AI would be interesting, does he have anything left?  Could he be our scoring punch off of the bench?

In Response to Re: 6 Roster Spots - who to get?:
Jeff Green already signed the qualifying offer so the Celtics will not have to worry about him until July 1, 2012. If the Celtics use the amnesty clause on Jermaine, meaning waive Jermaine, the Celts might have a shot at Crawford or Dalembert. But as it stands, no way the Celts are going to outbid the other teams for Crawford or Dalembert. Ainge and the Celts worked so hard to make sure the Celts will have a lot of cap space in 2012. There's no way the Celts are going to ruin that cap space, even for Crawford or Dalembert.

    Fierce,

Jeff Green was made a qualifying offer.  He has not signed it.  Right?  Or was I in hibernation for too long?

If he was made a qualifying offer, it may be the best deal for him to take given the terms of this CBA.  Correct?

If Wedont sign baby and picked up Crawford or Dalembert we would still have the max slot per cap to get top free agent and I think Crawford would look good in green

Okay - here are my 15:

    Rondo - West - Bradley
    Allen - Crawford - Moore
    Pierce - Green
    KG - Baby - Johnson
JON - Aaron Gray - Kwame Brown

15th player? - Carl Landry - AI - Troy Murphy (if healthy, I really don't think he's a bad option) - DJ Mbegna - Shane Battier - how about Leon Powe or Juwan Howard?

Can we get Krstic back from Russia, or is he done?  Let's see who gets "amnestied!"

In Response to Re: 6 Roster Spots - who to get? : Krstic's contract doesn't allow him to return to the NBA this season. Nenad Krstic  officially signed with the Russian team CSKA Moscow  today, a two-year deal that will expire after the 2012-’13 season. ESPN’s Chris Forsberg reports  the contract contains no buyout clause  for Krstic to return to the NBA, effectively ending any hopes that he might return to the Celtics at some point next season. http://www.celticstown.com/2011/06/22/nenad-krstic-officially-signs-in-russia-no-buyout-agreement/

He signed the qualifying offer of about five millions making him a restricted free agents which means teams will have to sign him to offer sheets of more than that and the Cetics will have the right to match the offer. so technically he's still a free agent. he can also refuse to sign those offer sheet and take the qualifying offer(This happened to Big Baby is 2009) so we do have to worry about him.

I think you are both right - he is still technically not signed, but most teams back off a player who has signed a qualifying offer.  He stays.........but could be traded if the right deal came along.

Re: 6 Roster Spots - who to get?

Sign a backup PG (West), backup SF(Green) backup SG(Marquis Daniels), Backup PF(Davis, Kris Humpries, Carl landry, Leon Powe or Josh macRoberts) sign a backup center (Jeff Foster), Sign the rookies Johnson and Moore, sign at least one more Big Man and sign rookie Gilbert Brown, Von Wafer or AI.

or we can play green at PF and sign a SF (JoSh Howard, Shane Battier, Grant Hill, james jones or Shawnee Williams)

There no way we get Dalembert, teams are oing to overpay for him and we can't match those offer, let's also remeber we're playing for DH12 next year so if we sign a center it willhavetobe for one year only, i don't think Dalembert can accept that. As fo Jordan, he has a qualifying offer of 0.9 million so it will have the oey to try to get him but he is a restricted free agent so the clippers will likely match any reasonable offer for him. Unless we overpay for him butthat wouldn't make sense because of DH12 is our main target next year. if we overpay for Jordan it has to be a one yea deal but it's unlikely that he accepts that. so we have to sign guys tat will make us competitive but will not kill our cap space for next year. Most likely one year deals unless Danny Ainge has a different plan for next year.

Waive Jermaine if we can. Do whatever it takes to sign a good athletic center.

i don't think it's a good idea to waive the only center on the team, plus he only had one year left on his contract and probably will retire after this.

yes let's waive our only center... my goodness

Do you know that with the new post-lockout rules we can't use the full MLE if it makes us go more than 4 million over the lux tax amount

So basically we can't keep Green and Baby and then use the full MLE.

Hopefully Green stays here for the qualifying offer and then we let Baby walk and use most of the MLE... like 3-4 million to get a Center who can split time with JO.

Then sign the rookies and 1-2 vet minimum players.

Green will have to play some PF mins and Johnson had better be ready

This article sums up the issues.

It would appear that if we keep Green... obviously has to be done... that we then only will have about 3 million to offer someone... ike 60% of the full MLE, and likely 60% of what Baby wants in salry per season... and once we hit 4 million over the tax we can only sign vet minimum guys

Since Green and Johnson can play PF it is important that we get a Center to add to Jermaine... JO should only be playing 18-22 mins a night in these 66 games.

Kwame Brown is my first choice. Jeff Foster and Aaron Gray other possible players who will play for 2-3 million a year.

That really is all we can offer.

Then Iverson and Delonte at vet minimum

This lineup (in minutes) for the reg season:

    C - Jermaine (18) Kwame (22) KG (8)
    PF - KG (16) Green (12) Johnson (12) Kwame (8)
    SF - Green (24) Pierce (24)
    SG - Ray (28) Iverson (12) Pierce (8)
    PG - Rondo (34) Delonte (14)

Johnson and Iverson could chip away at Kwame and Pierce's minutes

Re: 6 Roster Spots - who to get?

In any event Doc better get creative on offense this year or we have no shot

Before knowing who else we add to this team besides the rookies and Green... you'd have to think that these 4 players being on the court together could provide some excitement:

    Johnson
    Green
    Rondo
    West

Now in short season where rest is vital and the potential for blowing out teams who are playing you off a back to back (or are out of shape) comes into play.

You'd want those young athletes running teams into the ground...

Think about the schemes a creative offensive mind could come up with if they mixed the big 3 into lineups with those 4 1 at a time.

Ray trailing breaks or getting lost in a fats paced shuffle for his leaning 3's

Pierce relishing a do-everything well but not have to carry the whole offense role... where he passes out of double teams to streaking/gliding players or hits West for 3's.

KG well rested, kept that way and feeling the best he has in years starting the break with monster rebounds, trailing it for dunks or simply being forgotten about for open jumpers as Rondo/West/Green slash into the paint

As for D, we know what KG, Rondo, West and Pierce will bring... above average at every position. But if Green plays to his talent and Johnson has added a bit of muscle to go with his wingspan and kep the speed... they could be annoying defenders.

Here is what nobody gets as far as the cap. We have 70 million or so invested in what we have plus Rasheed and Shaq. After this year, No Shaq 1.5 mil. No Sheed 5.9 mil. No KG 24 mil. No Ray 10 mil. No Green 5.7 mil. That equals 46 mil coming off the cap. No Pierce 15 mil and Rondo alone equal 26 mil next year. Plenty of room for Dwight Howard. You can bring in other FA's and re-sign KG and Ray for the vet min to go for a title. Fierce knows what he's talking about.

Generally, you're right but Jeff Green will be on for more than a 1 year deal so count him in the salary mix.   Also, Pierce and Rondo will be on the books.  So, while your calculations are wrong, your direction is spot on because Ray, KG, Shaq, Sheed, and JON (you forgot him) will come off the books.   If Howard is around, we are players in that lottery.
