The Celtics actually did hang out at the Scotch and Sirloin.  I was going to school in Boston then and a friend of mine waitressed at that restauraunt.  She said it was like dealing with a gang of frat boys.  Bird, in particular, was like a big overgrown kid.

It was Bird who struck a deal with the restaurant owner to reserve a room with free food for the players so that the team would have a place to unwind after games. In exchange the team would do free commercials.

The youtube segment shows the result.

I love the old commercials there's a nativity to them that you don't get in todays advertising. Parish still cracks me up in that ad for the Scotch & Sirloin, he's convinced me that Lobster is the only thing to order on that menu!

I like this one with your new boy and two of your 'old boys'.

This is the one where Magic and Larry became friends.  Story was that during breaks in the shoot they started talking and realized that they both approached the game in the same way.

    but how about THIS ONE!

    'first time since 69'

the musick is absolutely brutal.  but i guess most things were back then.  i'm not sure if this was for the 85 or 87 repeat that we couldn't pull off.  great piece of promotion done up by someone though.  prolly the c's themselves.

That's a shockingly bad commercial for the repeat. But it's so bad that it's good!

Funny that it was so hard for a team to repeat as NBA champions until the Lakers did it in 87 and 88. Thanks to James Worthy :-). But then every side seemed to do it. Bulls, Rockets, Bulls until the Spurs broke the streak!

Here's another. Kareem with this 'good friend' Larry Bird.

that was a goodone.  nowadays, there's some guy on youtube who can shoot the ball standing inside the end of a 52' container truck, bounce it off the top of the container 4 times and hit the hoop that's in front of the container.  can't find that link.

    and then there's this guy....

looks crazier than the last mj-bird proposed shot inthrough the building window

That department store one had me laughing as the kids were running after John as he was dribbling along the aisles. McDonalds is just a classic, that shirt that MJ is wearing! Also that food would have gone cold after they'd finished.

    Dee Brown as a dentist.

    Kareem, the skyhook and Disneyland.
