    Ability to sign free agents?

If we acquire Jordan for KG and buy out Pierce, what money will the Celtics have to sign an allstar level player like J Smooth or Iggy?  D Jordan, Sully, J Smooth, front Court with Rondo running the floor would vastly improve the teams athleticism and rebounding, but I suspect our overall team IQ would take a stumble with the parting of KG and Pierce.

Sources: New framework for C's-Clippers deal June, 17, 2013 Jun 17 2:57 PM ET By ESPNBoston.com The latest as negotiations between the Clippers and Celtics heat up again:
The Celtics and Clippers have relaunched discussions on a new trade framework that could bring a resolution to the complicated talks regarding coach Doc Rivers and star forward Kevin Garnett potentially going to Los Angeles in a multiplayer deal, according to sources close to the process.

With the Clippers adamant that prized young guard Eric Bledsoe will not be included in the trade for Garnett, sources told ESPN.com one proposed tweak to end the weekend stalemate in the talks is the prospect of the Clippers taking back the contract of either Courtney Lee or Jason Terry from the Celtics.

Shedding the long-term money owed to either Lee or Terry, sources said, could convince the Celtics to relent on their demand that Bledsoe be included in the

Think the Celtics would rather have Terry off the books.  Plus Terry was Doc's guy.

Lee has more upside, youth and can play effective defense.

But I don't think Terry's contract works financially.  I think someone like Melo with a relatively low salary and would fill a vacant C spot on the Clips makes more sense.

Nothing will happen this year.  The Celts will not bring in a free agent.  Instead, they will try to dip deep into the lottery.  And they will try to keep the cap room open for next year.  It does not make any sense to trade KG and try to find a free agent.

Jordan and KG salaries cancel each other out meaning there will be no savings this year. If Pierce is waived that reduces salaries from $73MM to $63MM. If Terry (or Lee - both make the same salary) are included in the deal then the team salary will be reduced to $58MM, right at the league salary cap.

The deal essentially becomes KG for Jordan and Doc /Terry ($5MM) for draft picks ... Stern would have to approve the Clips taking back Terry for Doc as "compensation" ... Haha!

so if we end up right at the salary cap...will we only have the mid-level exception for any FA's?

Actually the buzz is that they are going to try and go after Smith.

if they intend to go after smith then this trade makes sense. with rondo, smith, green, and jordan, the C's would have a very athletic team. Rondo would be in heaven! just add a couple shooters and you have an exciting playoff caliber team.

none of them get enough FT attempts per game for it to be a big factor.

HonestlyHonestly, with that lineup I'd consider getting the ball to sully or Crawford, who I think will be on the court in off-def sub if possible.

if the C's could trade PP for contracts and a 1st round pick it would be worth it.
