Al Jefferson - fallback plan

I guess it would not hurt if the Celtics get Big Al when he has 1 year left on his contract. This makes more sense than the David West to Boston idea. LOLhttp://www.celticsblog.com/2011/8/19/2372938/one-mans-plan-for-rebuilding-the-post-big-3-celtics#storyjumpStep 2: Deal for Al Jefferson What more fitting replacement for Garnett could there be than the centerpiece of the package Boston sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves to get KG? In the Summer of 2012, Jefferson will enter the final year of a contract that pays him $15 million. With the Utah Jazz adding young big men Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter, Jefferson's salary could make him expendable. The Celtics could take Jefferson into their cap space while offering the Jazz some trinkets in return. Jefferson would give Boston a post scorer capable of drawing double-teams, and the Celtics would be able to give him more help defensively than he got in Utah. -

Ya, that wouldn't be bad. But i would rather have a trade for Josh Smith. -

Dont know too much about Al Jefferson but from what I've heard he has an act of disappearing on Defense.
As for Josh Smith him being undersized can be overlooked by his athleticism and his big potential. I read an article saying if the Celtics were to trade for Josh Smith this year he can play behind Garnett for one season and Garnett can groom him into a Defensive minded PF, which doesnt sound too bad. -

Posted by MrTrippleDoubleJosh Smith guarding the likes of Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki, or even Chris Bosh is awful to watch. There's just no substitute for length. No matter how athletic Josh Smith is, those 6-11 or 7-0 PFs are just going to shoot over him. -

One more example of expecting KG to play teacher to another underachieving, high-paid, one-dimensional player. Garnett can lead or even instruct by example but to assign him a teaching load is silliness. He has his own game to worry about (maintaining skill isn't just getting out of bed in the morning). This instance and the ever popular, "why doesn't RA teach Rondo how to shoot?" assumes a willingness on both parts; since when do NBA players not have egos? It's in their nature to believe they already have the skills and techniques - they just have to have confidence in them and the results will just appear. How many times have we heard that coming from guys who are weak in some aspect of their game? -

Hahaha .... Jefferson is one inch taller than West and $5M more ... another PF playing out of position and unrecognizable to those with one inch brains until he matches up against the beef in the playoffs. West can't split time with KG for a year but Jefferson can? ConnectingRod or NimRod ... LOL -

Posted by Mployee8Says the one who bet against Big Baby and lost.Big Al can play C and has always been a great rebounder.David West is strictly a PF and 40 pounds lighter than Big Al.It looks like it's your brain that's half an inch short of 1 inch. lol -

Posted by Mployee8"West can't split time with KG for a year but Jefferson can?"Another dumb post by the board idiot.Al Jefferson is more Center than PF, is a low post player, and bigger in size than David West. So Big Al does not need to split time with KG because he plays Center. David West on the other hand is a perimeter player who plays with finesse. And Big Al is only 26 years old, he can still become a better player. You should maximize whatever is left of that vegetable brain of yours. LOL -

rest assured, whatever position "big al" is playing, he will not play any defense. so is he really "playing" any position? -

Posted by aciemvpThe wingnut mployee keeps insisting the Celts are better off with David West. I say the Celts go after Dwight. But if the Celts fail to land Dwight and the Celts would have to choose between David West and Al Jefferson, I think Big Al is the better choice. Both David West and Big Al don't play great defense anyway. -

big al at WHAT MONEY though? he stinks on D, he's calcifying before your very eyes post knee surgery(s?), he can score a little bit and the rebounding numbers are way down. so how much do you pay for a 4 who is NOT going to lead you to an elite direction?
i'd say screw it and wait for something worth having. try to get marc gasol from the grizzles. if you could somehow pull that off (is that moron leftover from the pitino era still in memphis?) then that would be worth doing.
or go young and DEVELOP SOME TALENT the old fashioned way. this is an area where the celtics have been flat out miserable. look at rondo. 50%'s in the free throws into his 6th year now. that's some development. the only nice development story recently has been glen davis. every other draft pick has been a head case (rondo) or a nothing (kedrick brown and on down the line).
at some point you have to trade up in the draft and get something worth having at the starting gate rather than trying to paste crap together with things like a 30 y/o al jefferson with a bad wheel who could never play D w/ 2 good wheels. if we're going to have a couple of transition years then go for a guy like landry or some other lesser talent guy who can wipe the glass and play D for $5M a year -

Posted by aciemvpThe scenario is if the Celts fail to land Dwight. Big Al's contract is only up to June 2013. The Celts will have a ton of cap space by June of 2012, so what's the harm in trying out Big Al for just 1 season? -

Why waste $15M on someone who's offense is inconsistent and stinks on defense? Celtics should spend the money instead to develop new talent or enlist several veteran free agents. -

Posted by edcap99Celtic players under contract in 2012 are Pierce, Rondo, and Avery Bradley. The Celts have a ton of cap space in 2012, so who should they sign? It's easy to say "spend the money instead to develop new talent or enlist several veteran free agents". The question is who?The wingnut mployee says sign David West! Ha Ha -

Al Jefferson won't be adding much defense to his game at this point which means he can't help the celtics. I agree with acieMVP that a rebounder and defender for much less money would help take this team further into the playoffs. It's a grim scene out there for big men other than dream scenarios when the goal is to win a championship. Then again, the celts have recently won a ring without the dreamiest of centers to say the least. -

Signing West lets you trade KG's expiring contract (what goes around comes around) for Dwight now ... it's the best option for Orlando to get under the cap and rebuild. -

they love that guy chuck hayes down in HOU. i'm talking that sort of blue collar mop up. it goes a LONG WAY in today's NBA. hopefully you can find one who shoots a little bit better than chuck does. the wide rights and glass only FT's are a bit exasperating.
even if we get glen davis to stay for a year, he won't be here more than that, who wants to be doc river's hypocrisy-toilet paper anyway. find someone doc will like who can bang and grind and sign him rather than wasting a chunk of change on calicified big al. -

Rondo will never finish, you can see kids who can finish by the 7th grade, it is something you have or you don't. He never has had it. But he will continue to bring other positives to the table.
