Against the C's Martin was nowhere to be seen. One of the major reason that we won that game. In the playsoffs we will see if the decision of OKC was right. The biggest difference between Harden an Martin: Martin cannot create for the team or himself. But you are right. Until the game against the Cs, he was very efficient.

    In response to COMMIE-CONTRARIAN's comment:

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/51750/page/NextLevel/kevin-martin-is-super-efficient give that GM some serious cookies and props. he never gets swindled in any deal. won the pery trade and all things said and done, will likely win the hard trade as well. its a win-win, not the overall bust the perky trade has proven to be thus far. hard is the man in houston and has given their fans hope and plays perfectly with linny.  but mr. martin has simply been off the charts in efficiency and will be re-signed at far less money than hard (no max deal necessary).

martin is averaging 8 minutes per game and is on pace to break detlef schrempf's mark of efficiency for a guy averaging over points a game. detlef (one of my  all-time faves) shot the 3 at 50% and hit on 45% overall. noone with those marks ever shot over 50 from 3 as well. there's an outside chance that ray cold be there as well.  he laos leads the association in true shooting percentage (3-points, free throws all factored in). he's #1 in points per play as well. plus he's made a huge sacrifice to his game. this was the risk okc took.  His usage percentage -– an estimate of the percentage of team plays used by a player while he’s on the floor -- is 22.3, his lowest since 2005-06, his sophomore campaign with the KINGs.

He doesn’t have to create his own offense as often this season. Martin is second in the NBA this season in catch-and-shoot points (behind O.J. Mayo). He’s shooting 52.1 percent on catch-and-shoot jumpers and has a 75 effective field-goal percentage on those shots.
Now that he isn’t the focal point of his team’s offense, Martin is able to let his offense come to him. As a result, his shooting numbers have blossomed in Oklahoma City. This season, 31.4 percent of his plays are spot-up, as compared to 19.3 percent last season. Isolation accounted for 22.4 percent of his plays last season, while that number is down to 17.9 percent this season. Thunder have been a much better team with Martin on the court. They're scoring 19.9 more points per 48 minutes than they are with Martin on the bench. They're shooting better, especially from beyond the arc, and getting to the free-throw line more than twice as often with Martin on the floor.

Only one player in NBA history has had a true shooting percentage higher than Martin’s current 70.2 percentage (Tyson Chandler– 70.8 last season). Thus far, Martin has a career high in field-goal percentage (49%), 3-point percentage (54%), free-throw percentage and offensive rating this season.

overall, this is a perfect example of a player finding the right situation and system and adapting his game accordingly. playing off westbrook and durant has worked for him. now, celts were in talks with houston last year. now that is a trade i would have made (similar height).. ray for martin! y didnt danny pull that trigger? imagine him playing off rondo and ierce? his defense isnt perfect but out scheme could have hidden him a bit. Sam Presti is the best GM in the biz.. period! not only did he get martin, but he got #1 picks and draft choices and cleared payroll... BRILLIANT!

Why would you take a bow now and for that matter why would you do it at all?  The Thunder got a boatload from Houston. It is not just Martin for Hardin!  The got draft picks.  The Thunder did fine.

    "As contrarian predicted..."

    ummm.....no.

You even want to review some of your predictions? I think not. Such as Shaq leading the Celtics to the title. How about that recent list of NFL picks where you got every single game wrong?

You are a knowledgeable sports fan but your predictions are no better or worse than anyone else's, let it go.

As for this, you're totally off the mark. Kevin Martin was ineffective against the Celtics, were you even watching?

Here's the problem for OKC: Westbrook is not a traditional point guard. Harden was an excellent distributor in crunch time.

Martin replaces a good chunk of Harden's scoring but not his passing or all around game. It wasn't a bad trade but I would not have made it. Make one more title run.

I don't know OKC will even make it back to the finals now.

They took a step back in the interests of future seasons. Reminds me of the Perkins trade.

If you think Martin has replaced Harden then you haven't been watching the games.

That said, Harden did not play well in the Finals, so if OKC makes the finals and Martin plays great, I'll tip my hat to you.

Have a hard time how this headline was dreamed up...

In case you only watched a few games last season, Harden was money for the Thunder... a bench player that became one of their clutch players and could carry the scoring load on a team with both Durrant and Westbrook..

Yea, he had a rough finals but thats about the only criticism you can heap on the guy.  Martin in now way matches up....

Re: as CONTRARIAN predicted, KEVIN MARTIN is better for OKC than Harden!

If you're going to refer to your facts, get them right. martin isnt averaging 8 mins per game, more like 30 and your original post is just regugitation of the article, not an original thought.

Now, did you ever think it was Westbrook and Durrants presence that are making Martins 14 game stat line look good rather than the other way around? Also, can you tell me what the OKC record was last season after 14 games?? They're 10-4 this season.

Point being 14 games into a season and your crowning Martin as the transformer of an already NBA finals team into what??

HArden has proven himself as a monster for OKC over several seasons and a clutch player.. 14 games later, the team has reached a new plateau cause of Martin>?
