Asik, Lin, and 1st rounder for Rondo

Re: Asik, Lin, and 1st rounder for Rondo

Priority #1 for the Rockets was signing a real center so they could contend with Harden and Lin, who they think are contending superstars... Asik wasn't a consideration, but you want him to save the Celtics... laughable.

Rondo is untradeable in his present situation for any decent return.  He has to prove he can still play near his old level before we decide if that is acceptable going forward, or whether we should unload him for any real value

Asik's only claim to fame is defense, on the worst defensive team in the NBA that was close to a 500 record... brilliant.

II'm thinking it might've been Dave Cowens

No, wozzy, Asik's claim to fame is he's only one of a few Centers who averaged a double-double last season.

When was the last time the Celts had a big man who averaged a double-double?

Asik is one of the best defensive Centers in the league.  Anyone who knows the game knows this.

This would trade has a high potential to be a bust for all sides (and IMO little chance to be a win for both sides).

Rondo is just coming back from an ACL and might never be his old self. If you can't sho*t, and your athleticism is gone you are screwed. Plus, me might be a bad fit with Harden. Unlike Allen, KG and Pierce "The Beard" has his strenght not as a spot up sho*ter but as penetrator and creator of the offense.

Asik is a above average C in my opinion, but obviously is a difficult character and has serious injury problems. Lin is average or below and also has health problems. His poor defense is also a bad fit for the Cs IMO.

    Some random thoughts:

Asik is a horrible offensive player but his defense is undeniable. His advanced defense stats in Houston and also in Chicago are outstanding. That is not an opinion, it is a fact.

The 0 ring argument is a weak one anyway. For role players it is pure nonsense. Rondo was a role player in our last championship run. As an impact player Rondo has 0 rings. That doesn't mean he is a bad player but the argument is just not valid. He had his chance in game 7 against the lakers.

For the ones too lazy to google:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4709406/why-asik-deal-makes-sense-for-celtics

"Listen, you don’t have to sell this stats nerd on Asik. While most will look at his stat line and see a player who averages 5.4 points and 7 rebounds per game in three-plua NBA seasons, I see an elite defender capable of taking Boston’s top-10 defense to an even higher level.

Asik’s impact in protecting the hoop is impossible to ignore, both as an individual defender and the effect on his teams as a whole. Although he’s played sparingly this season (311 minutes of floor time), the Rockets’ defensive rating (points allowed per 100 possessions) is a measly 96.9 with Asik on the floor. That number rockets to 102.4 when he’s on the bench.

That isn’t an outlier. Two years ago in Chicago, the defense-minded Bulls owned a defensive rating of 89.7 with Asik on the floor, which was 5.6 points lower than the team’s already minuscule rating of 95.3. In his first NBA season, Chicago saw similar results when Asik was on the floor (90.9 defensive rating) versus when he was off (99.5).
    "

And there is MUCH more if you google: Asik + Defense

Exactly - it's something you can't quantify.  You said that without those ridiculous stats you put on there.  Perk WAS one of the best defensive centers.  DH said he played him harder than anyone.

A fan with above average intelligence could tell when Asik played for CHI that he was good defensively.

Of course, Danny Ainge, who knows not more about the game than you, likes Asik and tried to trade for him.

That must make him horrible, right?

You are entitled to your opinion, and, unlike you, I won't say yours is wrong.  Just differenct than mine.

Check out the "pro" part of the last one.

Insults and sarcasm aside, I think it's fairly obvious most people with a wealth of hoop knowledge agree Asik would be an upgrade defensively for the Celtics.

Last thing we want now is an upgrade. Think downgrade.  Play Rondo 35 minutes until or unless he gets back to normal, then trade him.

Danny would trade for Vin Baker right now if he had an expiring contract and could unload some of our dead weight.

Re: Asik, Lin, and 1st rounder for Rondo

If you traded Asik for Rondo right now, 1 for 1, the Celts would go from the worst team in the NBA to an 8th seed playoff team in a weak conference.  This would be the worst case scenario for us Smeltics fans.  Let Rondo captain them right into the basement first, then trade him for Asik.  Then we get Asik and a ton of lottery balls.

I would wait to trade Rondo until the end of the season, until after the draft lottery.  In the meantime we can giggle at posts made by fans that suggest Rondo is actually worth something.  Note- when HOU got Asik they weren't even dreaming about eventually acquiring Howard, especially in the near future.  And as soon as they did, Asik immediately asked to be traded.   Which leads to two points: Asik opted out of the starting line-up, and Rondo may have done the exact same thing.

Jordan said he wouldn't play on the Dream Team if they invited Isaiah Thomas.  Dwightmare's the biggest prima donna in sports.  What if the modern day prima was a PG and Rondo suddenly got paired with him?  You certainly wouldn't downgrade his ability.

Mere speculation. The only way this point could be validated would be if CP, Westbrook, Parker, D. Williams, D. Rose, T. Lawson, D. Lillard, K. Irving, S. Curry, M.Conley, E. Bledsoe, J. Holiday or J. Teague were traded to the C's and RR took a seat.
