Avery Bradley (aka second coming of GG)

Bradley reminds me of Gerald Green in so many respects. He is extremely athletic with absolutely no basketball IQ and totally lacking in the most basic fundamentals (like dribbling, shooting and passing). Let's see GG came straight out of HS. Avery had one year at UT under Rick Barnes' unstructured / undisciplined system. (Funny how UT players are always exposed at the NBA level.) Continuing---Danny was in love with GG's game, Doc is in love with Avery's (which goes to show that love really is blind).

What makes this situation most unfortunate is that Avery is taking valuable minutes away from the more promising rookie Moore (4-year college man with a smooth jumper and the poise to match).

Right now, until his offense improves dramatically, I see Bradley as a first half only player against the better teams.    In a blowout either way, go ahead and put him in.  Yesterday, he really didn't hurt us in the first half, but KILLED us in the second.  Don't care how good a defender he is, we can't play 4 on 5 in the second half!!

We do not have time to train Bradley (at least a two year project) he should have stayed in school.  We are not good enough to cover for him like we did for Tony Allen.  Tony is a tough player now but in the beginning it was hard to watch.  WE need House he knows the system and he has the energy and confidence to shoot the ball.  Dooling has shown we very little.  The other second unit guys look very good but we need a bit more outside shooting.  Brandon Bass is a keeper and I am not saying this because of the great game he had, he should play a lot of minutes around 35.

What I have seen so far, Bradley isn't a good defender either. He might be good (more like ok than great) in a full court press due to his speed but how often do we (or any team in the league) use this tactic?

In a half court defense his (lack of) size and low BB IQ limit his potential as a defender as well.

If it is not a "under game pressure" thing with him and he shines in practise, he is worthless IMO.

In response to "Re: Avery Bradley (aka second coming of GG)":
In Response to Re: Avery Bradley (aka second coming of GG) : Kirk, every player that plays in the NBA gets 20 points if given the opportunity. Remember Tony Harris? Tony Harris scored 105 points in the Philippines!  Don't look at the stats, look at how he actually plays. You can't tell from watching him play that he's dumb as an ox on offense?  Posted by Fiercest34
Don't look at how he actually plays either. Look at his athleticism and ask yourself if that athleticism can be turned into a player by Doc. Guy is very young, and did not have summer league this year or last, nor did he have preseason this year or last. He needs patience and PT. let's face it, this Celts team is not winning the title, they may as well develop what little young agent that they have.

Re: Avery Bradley (aka second coming of GG)

Some guys get it at this level (Moore) and some don't (Bradley). Athleticism has very little to do with success in the NBA. It's about understanding how your talents fit into the ebb and flow of the game. Unfortunately, Bradley seems to be lost, both on offense and defense, most of the time. Danny did well with this year's picks (Johnson & Moore) and would be advised to stick with 4-year guys whenever possible in the future as they usually have a better appreciation of the intricacies of the game.

p.s---My grandmother on a bad day could score in double-digits against the porous Knicks' defense. Bradley dropped 20 in a meaningless year-end game which was played on a streetball level (his forte).
In Response to Re: Avery Bradley (aka second coming of GG) : You are still not getting it.  In the NBA you play offense and defense! Gerald Green couldn't defend but he definitely could score. Something Avery Bradley is totally incapable of. Every time I see Bradley play he gets his shot blocked! If he's so good on D then send him to the Patriots to play cornerback.

maybe if we could play 6 guys and re-signed Green and somehow got Avery Green matched up with the opponents' 1 or 2 guard... we'd have one complete shooting guard

On April 12, 1996, Acie Earl posted a double-double, with 40 points and 12 rebounds. Scoring 20 pts doesn't mean much.  Green scored a career high 25 pts.

Please Kirk don't tell us you still think they should start Bradley.  You might make some of us throw up.
