So does Green still count 5.9m against our cap this summer as a 'restricted' free agent?

    Re: Bass contract/CBA question

So he is not a restricted free agent

he is just a player anyone can sign and the Celtics just happen to be able to exceed the salary cap by any amount if we want to keep him?

There won't be any 72 hours to match an offer.... he either takes one from someone else or gives us the chance to use all our cap space and then keep him for likely whatever the highest offer was he got from another team?

    Re: Bass contract/CBA question

So Green would then cost the 5.9m qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent.... drastically hurting our cap space, even tho he is likely worth that money for 1 year just to see him bounce back after the heart surgery.

    Re: Bass contract/CBA question

What I was looking for was if he would count towards the cap. I didn't know if we just magically 'held his rights' and could use all of our cap space and then sign him for whatever it took

It would seem we either give him the QO again, and he'd likely take it at 1 year 5.9m since that is over the MLE that is the most I'd see another team giving him... or we don't extend that offer and have to use our cap space to keep him... so unless he is staying for 2-3-4 million there is little point in doing that.

    Re: Bass contract/CBA question

Well we could just not sign the offer, making him an unrestricted free agent, and then since we are way under the cap he can sign here as a normal free agent would... if his value is indeed only 3-4 million.

I'd assume he comes back at the 5.9

If Bass is back at 4m then we have about 17-18 million in cap space.
