Best part is, Howard won't stay for an 8th seed. And the Lakers can't upgrade any postion because they are tied into bad contracts, and they have no draft picks.

not so, with 47th pick they might pick this guy, and all is swell...lol

It's a shame the Lakers didn't have the chance to draft a guy with a degenerative back (Sullinger) and a guy that just happens to be 7 feet tall (Non-Fab Melo).

The Lakers acquire 1st round picks once they are starting develop. (Jordan Hill, Earl Clark)

Earl Clark is gone baby gone. Can't afford to sign him. And Sullinger will be just fine.

I guess we should just take your word for Clark leaving?

    Oh, ok...

    Are you Sullinger's doctor?

You should try thinking. You have no money for him. Your Luxiry bill is already off the charts. Plus no draft picks. and only an 8th seed (if you are lucky)

Let me try to explain if for someone short sighted as yourself.  The main reason why the Lakers have the high payroll that they have is the great Dr. Buss was dying and did not have long to live.  So the decision was made to go for it now since Kobe only had two more years left on his contract.  They took on more salary with a veteran team and disposed of some draft picks because of it.  The man gave most of his life building the Lakers up to be the greatest franchise in the Association according to net worth and entailed 5 championships in roughly a 10 year span, so it was only right to go for another one while he still had a little time.  Anyone in their right mind and heart would do the same thing with the cash they had coming in.  As far as the luxury tax, that goes away after next year and then the Lakers only have one player under contract which leaves plenty of room to make future moves. Obviously they are not going to rebuild because the Lakers management feel confident that Howard will sign with them and for good reason, because the Lakers can offer him at least 20 million more than any other team.  Plus, the major endorsements will arguably be more lucrative in LA than any other market in the country.  Then there are the extras like Hollywood, weather and beautiful women.  Hope all is well!
