I wouldn't say that this game specifically is important for the Celtics but the next several weeks of games that they play.   They have to win most of these games against the elite teams in the NBA.  Hopefully, they won't lose any of the games against lesser opponents.

NO one game is the biggest game in an 82 game season unless it was all about home court advantage and it came down to one game to win HCA.   Its a fun and exciting game but by the numbers, the LA game in LA is no more important than the LA game in boston or 10 other games we can name.   I contend that Miami and Orlando and Chicago games are more important as they are in our division and head to head just may determine home court advantage!

Because January 30, 2011 could be the only time the Celtics visit the Lakers this season. If it's Celtics/Spurs in the Finals the Celtics will be visiting San Antonio in June, right?

That makes it a big and fun game for the fans against our rivals, but not the biggest regular season game.

Despite certain media outlets calling for LA to upset SA in the west, LA will not be in the finals this year.  It'll be a great game with a lot of hype, but imo it's not the C's biggest of the year.

FOX Sports reporters are evidently hitting an all-time low.  Wow.

Players will make it a big game, they will compete, but Boston will be without West and Perkings who will be returning in two weeks.  We will not know how tough Boston can be untill West returns and gives the second unit a leader that is badly needed.  He will also give us a point guard for the second unit and a point and two for the starting unit, if needed.  Perkins will give us some stability at the center position which is more important than most think.  Glen and Ray have played big in big games and could the the x factor in the game with Lakers.  The problem is Rondo who is a all star against all teams except Lakers and Heat when Koby and Wade gurad him and play center field guaring everybody.  West will prove valuable against Lakers and Heat because they will not be able let Koby or Wade play center field and not guard him.

The stretch of games starting Feb 4 (when Perk is tentatively scheduled to be back)  with Dallas, Orlando, LA Lakers, and Miami will truly be fun.  Let's see how much intensity and focus they can muster for 4 very tough games!

No regular season game is big. Fun, yes. Its all about making a good run in the playoffs. Look at the Pats, great season, one bad day in the playoffs and done. Only difference is that in basketball you can afford to have a bad day, but probably not more than one per series.

Hey - the Wizards probably played the biggest game of their season last night.

Maybe the Patriots should have packed in their last regular season game against the Jets and saved the bag of tricks for the game that really meant something.

We cant worry about any team out west because we have the HEAT, MAGIC and BULLS right on our heels.  Win or loose it means nothing.  I want the Celtics to win to stay in front of the East.  I dont care if they were playing the little sisters of the poor.  Just get a W!!!!

Re: Biggest Regular Season Game for the Celtics

They say it's a psychological thing but it really doesn't matter when considering the bigger picture. The fact that the Heat trounced the Lakers in L.A. should serve as a motivating factor. I mean the Lakers have lost to the Pacers and the Bucs at home. Boston is the best team in the East and those facts should get the Celtics fired up besides the Championship loss.

This game is bigger for the Lakers than the Celtics (when considering Home Court). L.A. has been inconsistent this season although they've been playing much better lately.

Some analysts believe the Lakers are just bored after 3 consecutive trips to the finals. San Antonio still has the best record in the NBA. No one can predict who will be in the finals. Circumstances can dramatically change with a key injury and there is still a lot of season left.
