You know, it's a shame that Hollinger (a Laker fan, I might add) wrote that column that stated (in his opinion) that the Lakers are the greatest franchise in history.....this argument has gone on for at least a year.....we are wasting a lot of time and energy on this topic when we all know that none of us are about to change our opinions.....Laker fans use the argument that they have more Finals appearances...Celtic fans point to the fact that we are better head to head, have more championships in fewer appearances, and have an .809 winning percentage compared to .516 (.423 in their city).....as I stated...NO ONE IS CHANGING THEIR BELIEFS ON THIS ISSUE.....I say let's move on...pride seems to be getting in everyone's way at this point.........the two greatest teams and the greatest rivalry....why not just leave it at that?

No one is trying to change your belief, you can believe whatever you want, but you can't dispute facts.

The Celtics played in 65 seasons in the NBA, true or false?

They didn't just play in the NBA in the 21 seasons they appeared in the finals. So your "fewer appearances" is a blatant lie. They played in the NBA two more seasons than the Lakers, true or false?

Tell me, why do you want to reward the Celtics in the 44 seasons that they FAILED to win the conference? by treating them as if they didn't exist? Do you realize that the Celtics had 44 seasons that they didn't reach the final?

And why do you penalize the Lakers for winning the conference? Fact is, 0-15 in the final is way better than 0-0, whether you like it or not.

MajicMVP You are a pathetic loser. That bleacherreport was written by Nick Gelso. Who the Fack is Nick Gelso? The article from emptythebench.com was written by Brian Spencer. Who the Fack is Brian Spencer? An article from hoopspeak.com written by Beckley Mason? Who the Fack is Beckley Mason? And please, don't use Larry and Magic's book as reference to the golden era. It's a book for crying out loud! An opinion is not a historical fact you moron! I googled "the golden era of the NBA", this is what I got. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986%E2%80%9387_NBA_season You want a neutral assessment of the NBA check this out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Basketball_Association

Fierce and Duke are Celtic fans, they are also biased. You are a Laker fan, you are also biased. So why don't we go to a neutral observer. The Wiki doesn't favor the Celtics or the Lakers. It's called being neutral!

The Lakers are 10-4 since the Bird/Magic era? What if I told you the Lakers are 0-0 in the Finals starting this season, you think that's fair? Get real!

You really expect us to believe the Lakers held 16 parades in LA?

How about disputing the fact that the Celtics held 17 parades in Boston!

Neutral observers? like those from the Washington Post, HoopSpeak, EmptytheBench? Yep, they acknowledged the Golden Era.  Well, even a Celtic blogger acknowledged that.

And yep, you can say that the Lakers are 0-0 in the Finals starting this season, no problem, except, what's the significance of this year?

The Golden Era is a legitimate demarcation point because

    1) it escorted the NBA into the major league era, into a Mega $$$ business, into a national and international icon.

    2) it's more or less the same as the modern era, as acknowledged as the time the NBA and ABA merged.

    So what about 2011?

Yep, I disputed that the Celtics held 17 parades in Boston. Show me evidence of parades in 1957, 1959, etc. Go ahead, I can't wait. My hunch is that there were hardly parades for winning a bush league championship...

That's because you're biased! The Boston Celtics have been the Boston Celtics since 1946.

Who Won the Most NBA Championships

The Boston Celtics won the most NBA championships ever. They won 17 of them. Their winnings occurred in the following years:

    • 1957
    • 1959
    • 1960
    • 1961
    • 1962
    • 1963
    • 1964
    • 1965
    • 1966
    • 1968
    • 1969
    • 1974
    • 1976
    • 1981
    • 1984
    • 1986
    • 2008

    Other Championship Winners

The team who has won the second most NBA championships is not too far behind the Boston Celtics. The Lakers, who have moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles during their franchise history have 16 wins to claim to their name.

    Other NBA champions include:

    • Chicago Bulls (six wins)
    • San Antonio Spurs (four wins)
    • Philadelphia/Golden State Warriors (three wins)
    • Syracuse Nationals/Philadelphia 76ers (three wins)
    • Detroit Pistons (three wins)
    • Baltimore/Washington Bullets (two wins)
    • Houston Rockets (two wins)
    • New York Knickerbockers (two wins)
    • Miami Heat (one win)
    • Milwaukee Bucks (one win)
    • Portland Trailblazers (one win)
    • Rochester Royals (one win)
    • Saint Louis Hawks (one win)
    • Seattle Supersonics (one win)

As we mentioned earlier, clearly the NBA is dominated by two teams in terms of championship wins. The NBA has only been around for 62 years. If the Celtics won 17 victories and the Lakers won 16, that adds up to 33 victories. Between the Celtics and the Lakers, these two franchises have won more than half of the championships played in the National Basketball Association.

The Boston Celtics are a National Basketball Association (NBA) team based in Boston,Massachusetts. They play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Founded in 1946, the team is currently owned by Boston Basketball Partners LLC. The Celtics play their home games at the TD Garden, which they share with the Boston Blazers (NLL), and the Boston Bruins of the NHL. The Celtics' 17 NBA Championships are the most for any NBA franchise,[1]with their Western Conference rival, the Los Angeles Lakers, following behind with 16 NBA Titles. From 1957 to 1969, the Celtics dominated the league winning 11 championships in 13 years, and eight in a row (1959–1966), the longest consecutive championship streak of any North American pro sports team.

The Celtics dominated the league during the late 50s and through the mid 80s, with the help of many Hall of Famers which include Bill RussellBob CousyJohn HavlicekLarry Bird and legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach, combined for a 795–397 record that helped the Celtics win 16 Championships. During that span the Celtics met the Lakers 12 times in the Finals during the mid 1950s and 80s with the Celtics winning nine and Lakers winning three.

If there was a "golden era" of the NBA then it ended in '89 with the rapid expansion that introduced the cHeat, Hornets, Grizzles, and Bobcats, which seriously diluted the talent pool in the NBA forcing us to bring up tons of CBA and soft Euro players.

Well, no matter how many Yankees fans you asked, you would not get a single one admitting that they only played baseball for 40 seasons. 27 WS wins, 13 WS losses.

Only a Celtics fan like you would brag about the Celtics playing only 21 seasons in the NBA. Fewer appearances? not a chance...

Well, you said 17 PARADES, as in

    "

Are you going to back that up with evidence of PARADES after championships in 1957? 1959? 1960?

Or are you going to wimp out with championships only but no parades after winning the championships? how come?

"Because the Celtics won a bush league championships during the bush league era, but I can't admit to that since the ancient championships are all we can hang on. How bloody hell can I show you any evidence of parades when no one gave a hood about the NBA championships back then? It wasn't the Red Sox winning the World Series. Gimme a break!!!"

"2nd place is the first loser"? You are not getting the facts straight. The first losers are the teams that got eliminated in the regular season: Timberwolves, Cavs, Wizards, etc.

But of course, 2nd place is still better than 2nd round exit. You must have enjoyed the Celtics getting eliminated in mid-May, but I don't. I'll feel much better if they are still playing, even if they lose to the Heat in the finals.

Championship or bust? not the sentiment your fellow fans showed last June after the game 7 loss. So save this "2nd place is 1st loser" BS for lunch.

Simple, are you going to ignore the times they failed?

    17-48 vs 16-47

Look at how they handle it in league standings. Look at the NL standings, say, in the morning of 5/25:

    Philadelphia 29 19 -
    St. Louis 30 20 -
    Florida 27 19 1

Tell me, how come Philadelphia and St. Louis are tied in the standings even though St. Louis won 1 more game.

You need more than kindergarten math to understand this, but you obviously don't know about it.
