    Re: Cap Space is Overrated

We have also learned this summer:

    Big market is overrated!

State Tax is overrated (even though Howard went to Houston)!

Looks like in todays game you need a young (or in prime) superstar to attract FAs.

The only way to get a young superstar is:

    A) Be lucky like Houston

    B) Be really bad and have a Top 3 Pick.

Cap space is ok, you just have to save it for a good player.

    Calderon???

Unless you are LA or Miami or NY.

Melo came to NY, but Howard didn't stay in LA and people come to Miami not because of the city. They come because Lebron is there. And Lebron came because of Wade.

Still, the only conversations every year around the league seems to evolve around NY/LA.  Other teams with cap room?  Not so much.  Obviously, it is rare that super stars change teams via free-agency but when was the last time you hear that the Timberwolves or the Bucks, or the Pelicans or the Raptors or etc.. is vying for a good free-agent player?  Houston is more of an exception than the norm.  There is a huge bias, seems to me.

Lebron did not go to the Laker or NY either. I think the league is changing towards players joining other players to chase a ring.

Cuban is overrated!  He wins a championship and refuses to pay T Chandler.  Lebron, D Williams and Howard all thought that Cuban is a joke.  He was doing his tv show last summer instead of going hard after D-Will.

Cap space with the new bargaining agreement is very very useful.  The Celtics need to get rid of those bad contracts: Lee-Bass-Wallace.

I predect that a couple months into this season Lee for 5 million a year is not going to look like a bad contract.

Lee is not over paid at $5M

he's certainly not underpaid, but it's about right for a top 8 player on a roster today.

Bass at over $6M is only slightly overpaid for his level of play

Wallace IS overpaid at$10M in the NBA salary cap world.

so is Humphries, but we all know that's only for one year.

Ainge should be able to move bass and/or Lee if he wants to.
