great article on Don Nelson...."Nellie" played for the Celtics before retiring and immediately becoming head coach of the Bucks....notice the reference to the powerhouse Eastern Conference, led by Boston and Philly....the media coined the NBA as the "Big Four" at the time, referring to Boston, Phily, and Milwauee in the East and Los Angeles in the West....as good as Milwaukee was during that time frame they could never get past both the Celtics and the Sixers in the same season...the team was loaded with all stars, led by Hall of Fame center Bob Lanier...NBA basketball at it's best in the '80's....even though I saw all the championships of the '60's, I think the Bird/Magic era was my favorite time to watch the game...injuries took their toll, especially during the '87 play-offs....but it was truly spectacular basketball headed by two great teams
