Assuming no changes from the current roster, which is highly unlikely, the Celtics offense will be horrid (separate post on this later), so our lottery position will depend on which players show up on the defensive end.
During the last 2 seasons, Rondo clearly lost his defensive prowess from earlier years that landed him on the all NBA Defensive first team twice. He has the inherent ability... but if he continues his recent performance (without Garnett to help pick up his man driving to the hoop), things could be disasterous. and Relying on Rondo for more offesive production could take his focus off defense. Which Rrondo will show up?
Regardless, if we need a stop, Bradley and Lee are both excellent defensive players. These three are potentially the best backcourt defense in the NBA.
Wallace was first team all NBA Defensive Team just 2 years ago!!! Will he care or is he just riding out his contract? He has the inherent capability.
Humphries is such an inconsistent player, hopefully Stevens can influence Hump to play to his potential. He WAS an expert at covering the pick and roll (a perennial Celtics weakness), bangs and punishes, good defensive rebounder and shot blocker. When he is unmotivated (last year with NJ) he is aweful, when focused he is very good defensively.
Assuming Faverani starts at center - scouting reports that he is a beast underneath, who can block at the rim and keep opposing big men away from the hoop. Who knows how this translates to the NBA.
Rondo (former all 1st team defense), Bradley (second team all nba defense), Wallace (former first team all defense), Lee, Hump and Fav could be the best shut down defense in the NBA and we finish 11 or 12th... or more likely, Rondo, Wallace, Hump could mail it in and Fav Sully and Oly display slow feet and we stink and sink to 4th worst record in the NBA.
