Celtics to meet with Brett Brown

Came across this article. Brown is the perfect coach for Boston. The guy was responsible for player development for the team best at doing it (San Antonio). Boy, does Boston need player development! On top of that he is a Popovich disciple. Hiring him would be a no brainer for Boston. Ainge just needs to hire him quickly.

According to a tweet from WCSH 6 sports anchor Lee Goldberg, the Boston Celtics plan to meet with San Antonio Spurs assistant Brent Brown in Orlando, Fla. next week. Goldberg tweeted the following earlier this evening.

Source tells NEWS CENTER: #celtics expected to meet with Maine's Brett Brown about coaching opening in Orlando next week, if not before.

Brown began serving the position of assistant coach for the Spurs prior to the 2006-07 season. Preceding that, he spent five seasons as the team’s assistant coach/director of player development.  He first found accomplishment “down under” as he spent 14 seasons of his coaching career in the Australian National Basketball League, where he accumulated 149 career victories (the sixth highest total in the league). He then worked in basketball operations for the Spurs beginning in 1998-99 and then returned to Australia to coach the Sydney Kings for three seasons before returning once more to the Spurs.

On an international level, he served as an assistant coach for the Australian National Team for eight years and that included the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. He was then called upon for coaching duty once again, this time in a head man position as he was named the head coach of the Australian National Team in 2009. In 2011 with Brown at the helm, a win over New Zealand in the 2011 FIBA Oceania Championship gave Australia a bid in the 2012 Olympics, where he was given head man duties as well.

He started off his basketball career right here in Massachusetts, playing on storied Commonwealth Avenue wearing Boston University Terrier Scarlet and White. The South Portland, Maine native was tutored under former Boston Celtics head coach Rick Pinto, who is currently theLouisville head man.  There, Brown was named Team MVP in his sophomore campaign, and carried the distinction of team captain in his junior and senior seasons.

On top of all of that, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University.

If he was hired by Boston, Brown would bring tremendous playoff experience to a rebuilding, young team. Having come off a NBA Finals appearance with the Spurs just this month, the lessons and familiarities would still be fresh in his mind. Having New England ties, there is a good chance he knows what Celtic basketball is all about, and a new coach with that unique asset could potentially mean good things for the future.

He was mentioned earlier has a good backround. I happened to read that Chauncy Billups might be getting shown the door in LAC land. If Kidd could make the jump I think Chauncy could as well, especially if we are going to build around Rondo. Brown sounds good too. It seems DA will make the choice after this weeks summer league who knows?
