Question - what kind of a person goes back to threads that are weeks old in an attempt to prove a point, and doesn't prove it? Answer - a very dangerous internet stalker!! Your attempt at argument bores me, and I would venture to say that one thing my "buddies" and I agree on is that you really need to get a life.  You have refuted nothing in two years, not one thing.  You rant and rave and say the same thing over and over and over and over......................no one gets it - not because we're not smart, but because no one argues like that.  Focusing on how many times a team LOSES, is a losers mentality.  Probably comes from an overload of soccer.  A stupid sport, where the clock goes UP and not down-  and no one even really knows how much time there is on the clock anyway!  Defeatist mentality at its' finest.

You are just giving three of your most vocal cohorts their ultimate compliment, a losers mentality, defeatist mentality at its finest.

You Celtics fans don't need the Lakers as enemies, you have each other. Just exposing you folks' own contradictions is fun enough...

In Response to Re: Celtics vs. Lakers - Thread to end all Threads on this subject : There you go again trying to compare apples and count chocula.  11 rings is greater than 6 rings.  That is simple math d i c k h e a d.  Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time.  You are comparing players not teams.  Again a totally different conversation.  But I wouldn't expect anything less from you.  Red Auerbach won 9 rings as a coach for the Celtics and 16 overall, an unmatched feat in the NBA.  Phil Jackson won 5 rings as coach of the Lakers.  So now you Laker fans are taking credit for the 6 rings Phil won in Chicago?  Again I wouldn't expect anything less.

11 rings is greater han 6 rings? Not according to the basketball world which consider the 6-ring person, not the 11-ring person, as GOAT. Go figger!!!!

And we are talking about coaches, 11 vs 9. But when that fails why not change the context (he has 5 more on some other capacity)? or even make up a strawman argument (we are taking credits of his 6 in Chicago)?

See, you don't even have the skills to read between the lines...

Apples and organges - or rings and people.  Can't compare them.  But you do.  Where does it say that the greatest PLAYER of all -time has to have the most rings - in soccer land?  Jordan - greatest player ever - big shock there.  Russell - greatest WINNER ever.  The Finals MVP is not named after Jordan, is it?  Is there ANY trophy named after Jordan?  Highly subjective and debateable topic, which I will NOT debate with you, because you are a lunatic!

    Umm.... interesting.

Where does it say that the greatest PLAYER of all -time has to have the most rings?

You folks even confessed that the coach with the most ring is not the greatest of all time.

So where does it say that the greatest franchise of all-time has to have the most championships?

Good that logic is your major weakness...

lakers are a great franchise, and for the past 30 years have been the envy of the NBA.  Celtics are trying to claw their way back.  Will also be very interesting to see what happens with the new CBA - lakers may not be able to overpay for talent and Kupchak may actually have to work to get players.
However, I will not concede greatest franchise - it has its' ebbs and flows!

So again I pose another question to you that you won't answer.  Would you prefer the Lakers to not make the playoffs or make the playoffs and not win a championship?  I will give you a hint.  If you are a true fan it doesn't matter if you make the playoffs or not because anything short of a championship is a failure.  Maybe not for every franchise in the NBA but for teams like the Celtics and Lakers if you don't deliver a championship then the season means nothing.

Son, I guarantee you that at least 15 Celtic fans don't take your nonsense.

These are some of the reactions after last year's game 7 loss.

existentialparquet: I've never been prouder of our Celtics. They battled extremely hard. It didn't end up going their way.

Soxpeat: Count me in as being proud of the Celtics.  They played their hearts out.

LloydDobler: Absolutely. They left everything on the floor tonight. Just couldn't make any shots is all, and I'd rather lose that way than from a lack of effort.
I'm every bit as proud to be a Celtics fan tonight as I was two years ago.

Karllost: Celts did much better than I thought when the playoffs started.

mbrann: Celts pulled off a few magical plays at the end but not quite enough. Although they missed the championship, I will never forget this post season. Bittersweet.

rpn313: No one in this forum would have (truly, seriously, honestly) thought 6 weeks ago that we would be in a game 7 for the championship.  And here we were tonight, a two point game with less than a minute remaining.
    ...
I hope there will be a lot of fans at Logan or outside TD to welcome home our warriors.  They deserved it.

BostonboyinCA: Yes, count me in as one who is very proud of our Celts

DaveM1967a: Good thread.  Great season.  I'm proud to be a Celtic fan.  Not sure when we'll be hear again.

Painful painful loss. But the Celts team can hold their head high.

CelticPridePinoy: I wore my celtics larry bird jersey in a well known las vegas casino and eventhough there are a lot of california lakers fans celebrating after the lost (man they are rowdy and rude now i know why most casino employees dont like laker fans) Im still proud, very proud as I walk out of the huge sports viewing venue. Its a valiant effort.

bostonian128: As sport is reduced to entertainment, we had a chance to be reminded of how much more it can be.  The timbers of this ship are built of indestructable character and I am very lucky to be a passenger.

fiorelladad: I am so proud of my guys in green. Congrats to the Fakers, back to back. Still I feel like 1987 all over again, claw and scratch against all currents to just die on the shore. As it is I prefer to go out like this instead like all the front running teams we beat to get here. It was a 4 point game in a game 7 and not a 39 point blowout on a game 6 to clinch. I will cherish this postseason as well as the scalding we gave them in 08.

celticsfanmx: Indeed it's very sad they lost. But on the other hand they just showed us what they're capable of, even in the conditions they started the post season. If they didn't become champions now it's because something was missing, and believe me, it wasn't heart.

Proud Celtics fan until the end!

mataymay03: I love my Cletics sooo much and Im really proud of what they have done this year.

bilalkazmi: Frankly, we had the toughtest playoff schedule out of any team in the NBA.  We met Cavs, Magic and Lakers without having home court on our side.  And the fact that we are the oldest of the 4 teams, I cant be prouder of how we competed.

zizou78: So much pride and love for the Celtics! They fought tooth and nail.

MitchBelgium: They deserve a lot of respect to even get here. At least we and the celtics kept

beleiving and you know what. Losing an NBA finals that could have end both ways that eases the pain a lot.

There you go, comparing people and rings again.  First, the Celtics were the best, now it's the lakers - with the Celtics vying for respectability again - I am saying you are the best right now - just like the basketball world.  Just not saying you have always been the best, nor will you always be the best.  You should take your compliments and go back to soccer now!

Red's greatness was that he was Phil and Jerry West, he built it and coached it. And when quit coaching his team was built well enough to win 2 more and then he rebuilt it not once but twice.

Phil and Red are just different people. To Phil's credit the last run in LA after he walked once because the Kobe - Shaq war got to be too much to handle was that he actually coached a team while it was being rebuilt around Kobe.

Both all time greats but IMHO to even compare the NBA life of Jackson with Auerbach is a poor comparison.

It's shut the puck up to you - how about them Boston Bruins!

This is a lame strawman argument. We are talking about all-time, not "right now".

When you said "Red was the greatest pro coach of al-time (sic)", did you really mean he was the greatest pro coach of all time in the 1960s? 1970s? 1990s? Afterall, you made that statement on 6/14/2011. By 2011, he didn't have the most rings as a coach.

Re: Celtics vs. Lakers - Thread to end all Threads on this subject

ok, I've been in and out of this discussion as we all know...this originally started out as a debate of who is the best franchise in NBA History.....both sides have stated their case for superiority...myself included. Now the discussion has gone from greatest franchise to greatest coach.....so I want to weigh in one more time.

First let me say that I genually respect most of the opinions stated on both sides. I think most know my feelings...and I hope you all realize the respect I give one and all (trolls excluded).....so as I see it...(I know, here we go again!!  :-)

Majic, you just stated that the Red/Phil arguement is about all time, not right now (I may be mistaken....I'm just reading the last post...I stopped following the thread a long time ago) ...well my take all time is... the majority of Laker fans are focussing on the last 30 years vs the earlier years....which is it...?

    Celtics vs Lakers regular season:

    Celtics 153 (.558)
    Lakers 121 (.442)

    Playoffs:

    Celtics 43 (.581)
    Lakers 31 (.419)

    All Time

    Celtics 196 (.563)
    Lakers 152 (.437)

    Championships:

    Celtics 17
    Lakers 16

    Finals Appearances:

    Lakers 31
    Celtics 21

    Finals percentages:

    Celtics .809
    Lakers .516

    Finals head to head:

    Celtics 9 (.750)
    Lakers 3 (.250)

    Celtics all time head coach:

    Red with 9 titles

    Lakers:

Riley and Jackson (I believe) with 5 each (?)

HOF players ....I believe the Celtics have the advantage

I believe these facts represent the fact that the Celtics are the number one franchise...with the Lakers right behind....

OK..I'm done.......peace guys & gals (on both sides of this discussion!!)

Don't know what that is - but I'm NOT arguing.  Nice you can recall my posts at will since they are hidden........that is really sick, man - SICK!!  You need professional help!  Don't see how the lakers can be the best all-time when the Celtics were so good for so long.  And greatness to me is measured in excellence.  Like Ty Cobb was a much better hitter than Pete Rose.  Like Jim Brown was a much better running back than Emmitt Smith.  Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds?  Please!!  I will never concede the lakers are the best ever-  give it up.  They are the ENVY of all teams in all sports right now - how can you even view that as a bad thing?  Oh, wait - look who I'm talking to!!

Boy, do you really know how this forum works?

Your post on 6/14/2011, posted at 1:42 PM, is not hidden in "the Auerbach coaching tree" thread. It's there for all of us to see. If you want to check whether it's hidden or not, there is an easy way, just ask. I won't laugh at your ignorance.

Don't see how the lakers can be the best all-time when the Celtics were so good for so long.  And greatness to me is measured in excellence.

Well, you don't have to feel ashamed.  I mean, I am not wiping out the Celtics' excellence. There is no shame for the Celtics to be the 2nd best franchise in the league. Just that they weren't consistent enough over the 65 years to be the best.

I will never concede the lakers are the best ever-  give it up.

You don't have to. It's not for you to decide. It's not for me to decide either. Take Lakers and Celtics fans out of the equation, which team would the basketball world choose?

I mean, if you based on neutral opinions, media, etc., you have absolutely no chance, due to two reasons:

    1) the media and Internet explosion in the last 2-3 decades, which coincided with the Lakers' dominance.

    2) the growth of the game at the national and international level, which coincided with the Lakers' dominace.

The Celtics dominance, as I repeatedly emphasize, happened during the dark ages of the league, a league of irrelevance with minimal followings. You Celtic diehards have no problem ranting and raving them as #1, which can easily be countered by the ranting and ravings of Lakers diehards. In the last 20-30 years you got no chance when

    (1) the majority of the NBA followings formed their loyalty (which team to root for, especially for the international audience);
    (2) the majority of the neutral NBA followings (non-Lakers, non-Celtics) formed their opinions.

As far as comparison between Red & Jackson,  Red built the Celtics via trades & drafting. Jackson did nothing to orchestrate any personnel moves by any team he coached, LA or Chicago. Jackson always walked into cherry picked situations where all he had to do was manage egos. Free Agency & collusion were non existant in Red's day. You couldn't steal players like Miami did to Toronto & Cleveland
