    In response to Fierce34's comment:

One way to go under the luxury tax, and get a big man at the same time, is by trading Bass and a 1st round pick in exchange for DeJuan Blair. And again, a 3rd team has to be involved because the Spurs wouldn't want Bass.

Blair will be an upgrade over Bass. His salary is only 1m and it expires at the end of the season.

What about Speights instead?  He makes more but would get us under the cap.

Speights would also be a good option. But Blair is the better rebounder.

    And Speights' character is questionable.

There is one thing you can be sure you'll get from Marreese Speights: shooting. The kid can shoot, and he's pretty damn good at it. He's typically solid on the glass (especially O-boards) but to expect anything else of him would be pissing in the wind. He very rarely passes, can't dribble, isn't fast or particularly athletic, and doesn't have anything near a refined offensive game. His defense mostly consists of trying to take charges. Shooting, seriously. But he can't take his game outside of 18 feet so it's not like he's Channing Frye either.

Also, he's pretty much a dumbazz. Even a quick glance at his Twitter page or watching him give an interview will tell you that no, he's not the most cerebral of basketball minds. There is still some upside there but as a lazy, slow, stupid ball hog, I'm not optimistic that he'll reach it. That being said, he'll probably give you an extremely inefficient 17 and 8 in place of Z-Bo, if that's what you're looking for. Just don't expect him to be, you know, good at anything else.

Blair has no ACL in either knee, and is day to day with a minor knee injury!

Blair (knee) is probable for Saturday's game against Washington, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

In addition, he is only 6' 7"! I will pass on Blair!
