I'm sure the lawyers will find a way around the rules, but in effect Doc is of course being traded.

Doc is being traded for two first round draft picks.

    They call it compensation.

Clearly Doc is being traded...  NBA rules dont prohibit coaches from being traded.

Of course, Fungus is citing some sports writer claiming this but does not post a link to the NBA rule itself. Other writers claim Doc is being traded.. What a tool.

FUNGUS's longstanding criticism of RA blows up in his face.... so he goes back to another tiresome theme to distract/minimize his humiliation.

According to Fungus, Bill Russell couldnt be traded in the last years of his career when he was player/coach.

Re: Confirmed: NBA Prohibits Trading Coaches

Chris Paul will use all the leverage he has to get Doc and KG in LA, and the "compensation" should be on the Celtics' terms since Paul can use the threat of not re-signing in LA to get what he wants. Danny Ainge has the upper hand in any negotiation, let's see what kind of deal he can parlay that into.  I don't think LA can risk Paul leaving and DA can let KG and Doc walk since they aren't needed for a rebuild.  DA did the right thing by holding his ground.

The league will be convinced that this is a good thing for business and will find a way to make it legal.

    In response to Fierce34's comment:

Sources say the Clippers and Celtics, to push the trade through, will have to convince the league office that the deals were not contingent upon each other. According to NBA rules, side agreements or contingencies are prohibited in any trade or free-agent signing.Rules also prohibit coaches from being traded; teams can convey cash or draft picks as compensation to get a coach under contract released from those obligations.

    Fierce,

Once again, it's not about trading Doc - it's about if the transfer of coaching rights for Doc to LAC is connected to Jordan-KG (100% legit) trade. The draft picks don't carry any $ value therefore NBA teams can use them as filler/sweeteners/whatever in other transactions.

Now it's up to Stern if it goes or not.

    Not in the NBA.

The thing is if it's a trade, the league office has to approve it.

If the Celts just get compensation, it doesn't have to go through the league office for approval.

Not relevant. Technical language to hide the fact that it is an exchange of services from one entity to another is still LITERALLY a TRADE between the two. No matter what you want to say the NBA calls it for the purposes of them creating loop-holes for doing business. Their rules and definitions do not affect the LITERAL definitions of the way Americans use words and perceive actions. Stop trying to imply that they do. Doc is being used in the literal sense of the word as part of a TRADE. The NBA calls ist something different in order to work around their internal techinicalities. We, as fans outside of the business of the NBA don't. Why did you even make issue of this in the first place? To prove how you are dying to be right? Its insane the amount of effort you employ to try and convince folks that you weren't wrong again..........WRONG! I know....The Skye isn't BLUE, its Sky Blue!!!

Re: Confirmed: NBA Prohibits Trading Coaches

I would be very careful if I were the Celtics.  Understanding on the side can be deemed as shananigan or collusion to circumvent the rules.  David Stern can impose penalty with blessings from the rest of the owners like he did with McHale's Minny when they had sweetheart deal with KG awhile back.  They better ask for Stern blessings first, I hope.
