Negotiations 101: Initial negotiations take place -  both sides ask for more than they expect to get in the deal - one or both sides walk away (impass) - talks resume  - consessions are made & and a deal is struck!

The Clips do not have as much leverage as the Cs - they know CP3's agent is taking calls from other teams. This deal involves KG, Doc, and PP - yes PP - if the Clips trade for KG and sign Doc, PP will follow!

DA has some leverage - prediction (yes I have been wrong before) deal gets done by Wednesday - deal to inlcude KG and rights to Doc for Jordan, Bledsoe, and a first round pick (not this year).

they will never trade griffin for KG at this point in his career...jordan and two first rounders is the most likely outcome...we would all like jordon, but not likely.

It is not kg for griffin.  If anything it is griffin for pierce.  Jordan and anybody else not named Bledsoe or griffin is no pierce or kg or Doc.  Bledsoe's salary does not match up well with our big 2.  You need a griffin if it is pierce and KG.

Question - who has the leverage? If the deal does not go through for the Clips, and they lose CP3 - game, set, and match for the franchise - if the deal does not go through for the Cs - they are still rebuilding!

DA is probably exploring the possibility of a 3-team trade - to help Clips get Grainger or Afflalo - Cs would likely want another draft pick......and one of the other teams to take Lee and or Terry ..

I would hate to be the recipient of DAs cell phone bill this month! I hope he has a good wireless plan!

    Hoops hype:

Sources say that the Clippers, meanwhile, have already engaged the Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers in separate trade discussions headlined by Bledsoe, with Orlando's Arron Afflalo and Indiana's Danny Granger as the respective trade targets. Indiana, according to sources, is leaning at present toward keeping Granger for the final season of his contract in hopes that the former All-Star swingman's return from knee surgery can help the Pacers close the gap on Miami in the East, but L.A. has been operating for months under the premise that Bledsoe, once Paul re-signs, will be dealt before becoming a restricted free agent in July 2014. You analysis is excellent. The problem is to many things have to happen and there is not a lot of time.  People on this board do not seem to see how little will change with this deal.  High draft picks spread over three years.  Deandre Jordan a centerpiece for a trade when he is just not that good and overpaid.  Blake Griffin would make this worth a try, but consider what has to happen.  It has a very low probabiity.

The fact is Doc is not going to come back now even with this trade not happening.  Nobody knows what hit them.  KG  will be gone most likely and the gains from this trade if done are not very great at all.  I am shellshocked by all this.  Depressing, Doc and KG did not bleed green as they professed.

Re: DeAndre Jordan and two picks for Garnett and Rivers

All the talk here about "trading" Doc, while wild and unlikely, puts something in perspective; teams win when they arew able to maintain a "message" about themselves as having an identifiable image.  The Celtics have that image but haven't had the players to complement the vision of hard-nosed and team-orietented defense and the ability to score from the outside.  I don't mean to provide a history lesson, but everyone knows this is true and dates back to the arrival of Bill Russell.  Having the right players matters more than who coaches them.  Does anyone believe KC was a great coach? Fitch? The probelms with the current Celtics is not on Doc's head; it's solidly on Ainge's (a head filled with Bonomo's Turkish Taffy, I think).  Did Doc want or lobby for the bone-headed moves over the last four years?  Would't Doc have preferred to stay with and enhance the '08 team, albeit an aging one?  Who would have Doc trusted on the floor at games' end - Ray Allen or any of the four allleged "shooting" guards that have Boston contracts?

The NY Times has an article today that illustrates the folly of coaching changes and compares those teams with the Spurs and Heat.  The two factors of coaching longevity and team success is what determines positive outcomes, and poorly managed teams, managed off the court, never sniff the sweet aroma of a championship.

Get rid of Ainge, give it a year to a year and a half, and the Celtics are immeasurably better through a judicioius draft and trades/signings.  Keeping Doc allows that to happen, not Vinny, Karl, Lionel, or any other guy out there.  Do we want to see the Celtics coached by a Mike Brown type? Really?

None of that matters, it's all on the Clippers.  The players MUST be Jordan and Bledsoe.  We can haggle on either 2 first round picks over 3 years or a definite first round pick and cash considerations to get it finalized but it HAS to include Bledsoe or it's NO DEAL.

Fierce...irrespective of all the bantering, like that as being good natured as opposed to bad mouthing, between you and a few other posters, many should admit you have a very sound basketball acumen more times than not.

Most posters want the deal but only with Bledsoe. Why the love affair with him if we keep Rondo. He averaged under 10 points per game and rebs a 3-4 ave ? Even Rondo was a more prolific scorer and probably the best PG rebounder in the game. Now if we then trade Rondo for a Cousins...maybe ?  How about we get Blake Griffin for KG and Butler( 6'7") for PP whom they could waive or keep. And they keep Andre Jordan as they would not have a Center unless they then plan to get Howard. Now without Bledsoe, maybe we keep Rondo & hope that Melo develops and Sully is enough for rebounding but the important thing is to look to the future and get 2 draft picks and with ours too, draft a couple of 6'10"---7' Centers and bite the bullet a couple of years maybe even makng a first round playoff.

And now the Clippers could trade Bledsoe & Jordan to the Lakers for DH(LA Is desperate for a PG) !!! And the Clippers would be a strong favorite with DH, Paul, KG and even an ageing PP if they kept him.

Looking at stats why do we want Bledsoe unless he plays with Rondo and they are an awesome duo or we trade either for Cousins, preferably Bledsoe as I'd prefer to keep Rondo.

     Bledsoe 2012-2103

     PPG  REB ASST  FG%
     8.5   3.0    3.1    44.5%

     Rondo 2012-2013

    PPG 13.7 REB 5.6 ASST 11.1 FG% 48.4

I think the real plumb in the trade is not Bledsoe, Jordan etc. but would be the value of the draft picks plus our own. With them if not a desirable big man in the draft, could we then get a Cousins or another formidable big man, Jefferson, Josh Smith and a scorer too like Redick.

I agree, Bledsoe although a good player does not have a good outside shot or passes the ball that well either. He's a lot like Rondo in that he is a good athlete that can penetrate but will cost us a fortune to keep when his rookie deal expires. If were going to rebuild let's do it right and get all the draft picks and yound players we can and turn them into a great team and not just a good team.
