Dirk 30 boards away from passing Bird... already has 3,000 more points

Too bad Larry's career was cut short by injuries, otherise he'd be in the top 15 in points and rebounds instead of down in the 20's:-(

So? Bird is still better than Dirk in every way.

Plus, Dirk is a 7-footer who has played nearly 200 more games than Bird. A fantastic player, and in my opinion one of the 50 greatest, but he's no Larry Legend.

It is not relevant as you, I, and the whole world knows. Even Mark Cuban, the most rabid Dallas fan and even Dirk knows.  Larry Bird is a basketball god. Pierce in my opinion is a greater player than Dirk. And  I think Dirk was a great player as well.

    Ahh, statistics again...

Larry = 3 time NBA Champion; 3 time NBA MVP... and more importantly 3 Time All Defense Team

Dirk  = 1 time NBA Champion; 1 time NBA MVP (with two more seasons) ...defense? whats that?

Larry was just a better All-Around Team player on both ends of the court.

I agree there is no comparison. Bird is the best small forward ever.

Dirk,, on the other hand, was never an all star starter until KG left the west and headed to Boston. He was always in KG's, and Duncan's shadow. Dirk received a lot of media hype when the Mavs finally won a championship, but  he should not even be in the same conversation as Bird.

Their is no need to even compare.  It like saying who is richer a millionaire or a billionaire.

Haha, good qoute, I of course made this thread to show what a shame it was that a similar but obviously superior player in Bird isn't as celebrated in the record books as Dirk.'

Dirk may have won more than one title if he had Parish and McHale types around him:-)

Tiny and DJ were better than Devin Harris and an old Kidd. Ainge = Terry. Max was better than Josh Howard, Walton was better than Brendan Hayward, Dirk got 1 year of Chandler, the only C he ever played with comparable in overall impact to Parish, who Bird played all but his rookie year with. McHale is WAY WAAY better than Marion and the other F's Dirk had like Jamison or Keith Van Horn.

Put Dirk, 20 years old as a rookie not 23 like Bird, on the 80's Celtics and they likely still win 3 titles and he plays until 1997 not 1992.
