Wow! Undergo experimental surgery (at best), then get rushed back on to the court! Can't wait to see how this plays out! Might turn out to be a real "strain" or "back breaker" for DH and the Lakers!

4th point of Dr. Klapper's recent statement: "The fourth and last point was something that some Laker fans may not want to hear. Dr. Klapper stated that any surgery, not just the one that Howard had done, will cause the patient to have a full year of recovery time until they feel fully normal again." The good news here is the Mav's expect DH to be healthy at the start of the 2013-2014 NBA season!

Wow, your parents should be slapped in the face for not showing you some type of interest as a kid. Do you really think anyone on here really cares about your Laker crap? Just answer one question.....Why do think you need to do this?

"But, Dr. Klapper also added that this should in no way have any affect on Howard’s athleticism, speed, back strength, or the way in which he plays basketball. Dr. Klapper finished off the interview by insinuating that, unlike Andrew Bynum, Howard will not be playing in fear of yet another back injury, in the case of Bynum it was his knees, this upcoming season."

You cherry pick because you come at this from a position of weakness, and everyone knows it.

LA Times is running this site

I really tihnk LA Times is running this site. Allowing the Laker trolls to post all the time is very tough to take. Still pictures of Ray Allen all over the place. Why? The person running this site should be fired or admit they are a Laker Fan with one goal in mind and that is trying to get under Celtic Fans skins. I sure hope Celt fans do not do this on Laker sites adn I would not know because I could care less about them. Remember one thing......WHAT HAPPENS IN MINNESOTE.....STAYS IN MINNESOTA.

Even without Laker trolls coming here, half of the threads started here are about denigrating the Lakers. Why is that? Is it because you Celtic fans live for the demise of the Lakers? The real issue here with you is that you just can't deal with the re-emergene of the Lakers as another power overnight. And 18 is just around the corner. I, for one, will have very little interest coming here after we become number one in titles.

Re: Dr. Klapper: "Dwight Howard Will Be Ready For The Los Angeles Lakers Season Opener"

    Ricoactain'tback!!

Howard has been complaining of back problems since early March, but it wasn't until Los Angeles-based spine surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins examined him last week that the herniated disk was discovered.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7834605/orlando-magic-dwight-howard-back-surgery-miss-rest-season

Dr. Klapper is a leader in hip arthroscopy, a "keyhole" minimally invasive surgical technique. Currently, Dr. Klapper holds nine patents on the angled telescope and specially designed instruments used in the procedure.

So, in regards to the OP's opening post.

He is NOT DH's orthopedist, he is AN orthopedist
He is NOT a back specialist, he is a HIP specialst
He has a weekly show on ESPN - LA, home of the lakers and is a noted lakers homer.
Other than that, and the fact he is NOT a Celtics fan, TommyRules is 100% correct.......just like always!!

The only thing weak is DH's back, the Lakers's starting 5, bench, coaching staff, and front office!

From  Dr. Lionel Hunt, chief of spine surgery at Cedar Sinai: 8/14/12 Howard should be able to resume weight training and basketball activity in a matter of weeks. He'd be more concerned about Bynum's knees (which will always be injury-prone) compared to Howard's back, which are more of an acute injury rather than chronic. http://losangeles.sbnation.com/2012/8/14/3241523/dwight-howard-lakers-trade-injury Posted by TommyRules
I am certain the Magic sent him to the best surgeon they could find (after his 15th trade request)! Who knows, sometimes experimental surgery works out!

This was a writer reporting the doctors opinion, he wasn't reporting his own opinion, so trying to discredit the information by posting the writers bio is duplicitous, at best.

Dr. Lionel Hunt, chief of spine surgery at Cedar Sinai, talked about Howard's back on ESPN Radio, and had this info to relate on how quickly the injury should heal.

Here is the bullet point summary of the injury

    • Howard should be able to resume weight training and basketball activity in a matter of weeks.
    • He'd be more concerned about Bynum's knees (which will always be injury-prone) compared to Howard's back, which are more of an acute injury rather than chronic.
    • There should be a few months of recovery, and there is a possibility Howard could be ready close to the early of the season.
    • Basically, the back injury won't be a huge issue and shouldn't affect Howard's ability all that much, making this trade to jettison Bynum quite worth it.
And the interview of the actual doctor:

The good news is he will be 100% healthy by the start of Mav's training camp in 2013!

Mark Willard: Do You like Dwights chances for opening night?
