Gasol wasn't part of the talks until today.

Problem for LA is that this is NOT a long term Howard signing.

Nor do I agree that Howard is a LOT better than a healthy Bynum.

It's a smart trade for LA given the Magic are willing to get fleeced for draft picks, but this doesn't guarantee of bunch of rings for LA like some trollish fools on this board said.

Our problem last year was our guards, in particular POINT GUARD. I think we upgraded that with Steve Nash. Dwight Howard is "icing on the cake".

Our small forwards are fine. Defense will improve significantly with a full camp under Mike Brown.

The only people who don't view this trade as a GREAT improvement are the people in Boston! Watch Sports Center and other media outlets and you'll soon see that the Lakers were the BIG winners in this trade.

Lakers improved - no doubt about it, but it's not an astronomical improvement over what they had. Bynum is pretty close to Howard in talent and production. The fans who should REALLY be crowing are the Sixers - they made out like bandits. That's a massive improvement. I agree. I'd like to know where Danny was with this trade - getting Bynum for Iguodala and Moe Harkless???? That's a theft.

guys please stop...you always seem to crown yourselves champs before you even play a game...just wanna remind you that bench production is key...Howard for Bynum is not that big of a deal...Bynum had a hell of a year and you guys (Lakers) still got ousted in the playoffs by a team that is STILL better than the Lakers with Howard...remember, Perkins gave Howard fits when he was with Orlando...looks like he will do the same out west...good luck though...

2 Year window at most. Nash is 38 and Kobe has logged alot of minutes on his body. Lakers are in the conversation, but they were with Bynum anyway. This trade really isn't a big deal for the Lakers. It's HUGE for the Sixers.

This move could backfire on the Lakers. I have not heard anything about DH signing an extension.........could it be that he is just a rental and next year he is off to NJ..........also.......the only thing the Lakers did is trade the 2nd best center for the 1st..........and traded for one who can't be on the floor in close games because of his horrendous FT%......LA still has no bench.......people all too ofter fall into the hype presented by ESPN and all the sportswriters........the real winners in this trade are the 76's........they have got to be ecstatic......the real losers are Orlando.........no idea what they are thinking.........the NJ trade would have been much better.........they just got toasted "again"

I think Dwight Howard is better than Bynum, but not by light years. Bynum is a pretty decent offensive player and can hit a FT, and if he could stay healthy he'd be right there in the discussion of the best NBA centers. Howard is the better defensive player for sure. Howard will be hyped beyond hype now that he's with the Lakers. The Lakers are in win now mode. Good for them, the west just got more interesting.
