    Excellent Fishing Destinations

Well, the Lakers are finishing up exit interviews, and will FINALLY get a much needed rest after 3 straight Finals appearances. Very good for the team. Mitch will tweek the lineup up a bit, but the main pieces will stay in place, and the Lakers will be winning championships again before we know it. If there is a major move it will be to bring D12 in for Bynum - which either way, the Lakers win.

NOW, where should the celtics be planning their fishing expedition which will begin tomorrow morning.

Do the lakers know any good destinations? They've had time to scope them out. Are they going to place that might toughen gasoft  up? Someplace, he won't be able to be bulied by Dirk Novitizki?

Your old and exposed core, can certainly use the rest. They won't be playing for another championship for a long time though and that's a shame.

luckily for us the Celtics have structured their salaries so they can make moves to rebuild quickly. it'll be sad us in the finals without the Lakers in the future, but hey we beat them 70% of the time we face them there so what's the point of L.A. even showing up?

Good luck in your coaching search. We have seen from Kurt Rambis how well Phil's disciples do.

TWEAK the lineup??  I LOVE IT!!!  Only in LA can a team get humiliated and have its' fan base say there is nothing wrong with the team, just a few "tweaks".  Love it......Gasol went from 20 reg season to 13 in playoffs, no big deal......Artest became Artest in the playoffs.....no big deal.........Bynum turned into a punk......no big deal.......Fisher showed he can't cover his own shadow......no big deal.......the "Killer B's????".......funny guy, Tayshawn, funny guy.

He can "tweak" it all he wants, but he can't change the fact that he ( and koME) have strapped the lakers financially for the next 3 years!!  Nothing he can do!!

    Thanks for fishing!!

Kobe deserves more money for all of his hard work, dedication, and championships that he has brought to the Lakers. Dr. Buss should give him an extra 25 million on the side for just being Kobe Bryant. The rest of the team has played almost 1 more full season than the entire rest of the league in just the past 3 years, so yes, the rest is a very good thing. Anyone with common basketball knowledge knows that the Lakers were mentally and physically worn down as the season came to a close. After almost 300 games, who wouldn't be? The BIGGEST need for the Lakers is the R&R, some nice vacations, and a better defensive point guard. Not too big of a shopping list as compared to the celtics who after tonight will need an entire makeover or an actual  "fountain of youth". Laughing

This post shows your complete ignorance of basketball!!  You know absolutely nothing about it.  First of all, the laker are OLDER than the Celtics.  Second, how about a new coach?  You need a PG, of ANY kind, and how do you propose to pay for one??  R and R??  That's great!!
And, he CAN'T pay him any money on the side - that is illegal - and your not knowing that shows your incompetence when discussing the game.

You are a bafoon, and I shall not miss you in my retirement!!

If the Lakers don't get Dwight Howard, they're cooked once Kobe finally ages out

Then Lakers fans would then get to enjoy a twilight like the Celtics did in the 90's

And Dwight Howard isn't Shaq - it sounds like he doesn't have a big enough personality for a major market and Orlando might be perfect for him.  He's never been a franchise cornerstone.  He can't win games for you singlehandedly like Shaq could (see: Atlanta this year)

How are you going to sign a point guard heading into next season?  And how can you count on Pau Gasol to bounce back?  Or Bynum to continue to stay healthy when his knees are already thrice operated upon under the load of his 350-400-pound body (and yes, Shaq is probably 450+; don't believe what the listings say)?  This season proved that Steve Blake and Derek Fisher can no longer take you to the promised land - DFish has entered Mike Bibby territory as a spot up shooter as a backup PG at best.

Anyhow, maybe the Celtics, the Lakers, and all their fans can get together for some fishing.  Mike Abdow charters bass and tuna trips out of Chatham - he's quite excellent at what he does (which is getting you 50-60-inch 150 lb tunas)

The Lakers do not need D12, but will probably end up obtaining him as he has already stated that he would love to play for the Lakers. The magic will not lose him for nothing, and Bynum is going to be their best offer, bad knees and all. Remember, the Lakers could have had Melo if they had parted with Bynum this past season. The Lakers really need to just stand pat, and go after a MLE defensive PG - The PG position does not need to be a great offensive threat in the triangle. Brian Shaw will pick up where PJ left off, and the Lakers will once again be poised for the title. Laughing

Not that he's a reliable source for unbiased Celtics talk, but I trust Bill Simmons when he says that most NBA players are living paycheck to paycheck:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090227

It means that, unlike the NFL where players have been gearing up for this lockout for one or two years, the NBA players will surrender much faster when their cash flows dry up.

And talks right now point to a hard cap with no mid-level exception

But you're right about the Magic not getting much better than Bynum.  We'll see, but as I detailed elsewhere on here, I just don't think Howard is made for the spotlight.  He hasn't handled the scrutiny well, and it'll only get more intense in a bigger sports market.  Chris Paul, on the other hand, was made for a major market team.

    We'll see.

hedley - - LOL - you consider D-fish a prime player for the Lakers?   - (Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Odom);  celtics prime players - (kg, paula, ray, rondo)

Brian Shaw pretty much has the job in the bag, as Mitch understands that Kobe and Brian can co-exist. Shaw was an assistant coach that understood the Lakers needed to be working harder during the season to 3-peat, as he had actually been through that. PJ disagreed, and let them slack off. Regardless, the Lakers were just absolutely worn down after playing so many games over the past 3 years and gave up on everyone including themselves. That is why the R&R is just what they needed to re-energize and come back stronger next year. Steve Blake and Matt Barnes will be better next year with a year of experience getting to know the other players and their tendencies. As with all players, inujuries are serious but Barnes will have fully recovered from his knee injury and will be better undoubtedly.

You are still incompetent (PERIOD)  Cool

These thoughts by Tony Massarotti sum it all up best:

Speaking of those Lakers, don't you just love how they go down fighting?

I mean, in the last two games that ushered them out of the playoffs, the Lakers have lost by 36 points to the Dallas Mavericks (in Game 4 of this year's Western Conference semifinals) and 39 points to the Celtics (in Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals).

No quit in that team, I tell you.

How is that not a reflection on both Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant?

Orlando is not going to go through another Lebron, or better yet Shaq moment. Howard can sign with whomever he wishes at the end of this next season, the magic will hold off as long as long as they can to see if they can re-sign him, but in the end, he could very easily be a Laker. The Lakers will be fantastic either way.

Ric Bucher reported that "Dwight has a list of 4 teams he would like to play for - Lakers, Mavs, Nets, and Knicks."  The Lakers being the most glamorous of course. During a chat last month, Bucher wrote: “I would expect a Dwight trade this summer or before the next season starts, from what I’m hearing.”

A hard salary cap is coming:

There are too many small market teams losing money.  Between small market teams and Celtics' & Lakers' rivals who don't want them to benefit from new rules, it'll be tough for either team to add anyone under a hard cap

    Just sayin'

By the way: Mav?  Nets?  Knicks and Lakers make the most sense I guess, but he's not spotlight material.  I think he's the first recipient of the NBA franchise tag:

only way to do that is to get rid of gasoft and Bynum, Which will leave poor dwight like he is in orlando with no help at all.  Because Kobe is too old and not good enough anymore.  And Fisher and blake are not even NBA quality at this point. and the zen master is fishing in Montana. Sorry. not gonna happen.

Either way, the Lakers win. Gasol and Bynum or D12. Win/Win situation.

D-Fish and Blake are fine. Brian Shaw is taking the place of PJ, but with a more profound emphasis on work. PJ had his hands tied with a tired Lakers team that had played an extra season of playoff and championship games as compared to every other teams in the league, or he could work them which would only further fatigue them. The mavs took supreme advantage of this, and prevailed. More power to them. The celtics on the other hand are completely done after tonight. kg will be living in a nursing home when the 2012 season starts, paula and ray will be watching wade and lebron run the eastern conference for the next 3 or 4 years. good luck though. Wink
