Why are you all hating on Fierce her again? He is clearly a Cs fan and more objective than most of the posters around. The reason why Rondo is in trade discussions is because he is the ONLY celtic who brings back value. The Big 3 are just old. No team will give is sth valuable in return.
not normally do i complain about officiating. but that was pathetic.....lakers shoot 14 free throws in the third compared to ZERO by the celtics.....no wonder they have such a good home record and horrid away record

In response to "Re: Game Thread: Celtics vs Lakers":
In Response to Re: Game Thread: Celtics "I believe Rondo has a descent shooter inside waiting to bust out. Hos problem is that he needs to take 5-6 shots (misses) to get loose but fears hurting the team until he finds his shot. Once he does he as good as most PG's. " This is the great myth you guys are living. If someone can't hit free throws, they can't shoot well either. Rondo will never develop a decent jump shot. Like a blind squirral finding a nut, he will have his occational good days shooting lights out like we all do and he did at the all star game. Check the stats - good foul shooters are good shooters and visa versa.

Re: Game Thread: Celtics vs Lakers

You know, quiet as its kept, Bass made some horrible DEFENSIVE lapses down the stretch.  Those defensive lapses might have been more of a factor in this loss than our lack of execution down the stretch.

First off, we (not Bass) let Fisher get an offensive rebound and then Bass bites on a Fisher pump fake and fouls him.  You're 6'9'' and biting on a pump fake at the rim by Fisher.  By Fisher, come on.  That's two points by Fisher on FTs.

Then on Kobe's basket, Gasol screens PP and Kobe gets the shot over the outstretched hand of Bass.  Honestly, Bass should have closed harder on that screen.  He should have forced Kobe out further.  He was too far inside and could not recover enough to defend Kobe's shot.  Had he defended the pick harder, no way Kobe gets that shot off so easily.

And Bass has to at least jump on the alley-oop by Kobe to Bynum.  Kobe got around PP and KG had to step up.  Bass, rotating over, has to get off the ground in that situation.  He never got off the ground.  He appeared to be rooting Bynum out under the basket thinking it was a shot.  He's got to recognize its an alley-oop and do what he can to defend that play better.

It's the very small detailed things that, when executed properly or inproperly, are the difference between winning and losing.  Those three defensive lapses by Bass had a tremendous effect on the end of the game.

They closed on an 8-0 run but with better recognition, things might have been different.

Of course we know Boston only loses when it's the refs fault.
In Response to Re: Game Thread: Celtics vs Lakers : Camby's too old, too fragile. And he can't score anymore.  Camby and Kaman also have the same price tag. So you want Camby over Kaman?
    Posted by Fiercest34
My issue with Kaman is that matching the salaries will be a beast.  We are talking JO, Wilcox, Dooling and Quis plus draft pick.  Also, Kaman is not the smartest of defenders.

Perhaps Kaman is a better choice than Camby.  But I will also look out for a quality 4.  The Celts were ready to go for David West.  He would have made a real difference.

You make such great points.  In trading Baby for Bass, the Celts improved a little bit.  They got rid of a head case.  And they traded defense for offense.  Bass is a very questionable defender.

All that Bass brings to the table is the ability to make open jump shots.  That too he missed in the clutch.  His rebounding is ordinary.  I think that KG will not be a dominating 5.  But he can be pretty good.  Danny shouldn't just look at getting a 5.  A quality 4 will also work wonders for the Celts.
In Response to Re: Game Thread: Celtics vs Lakers : It was too good to be true. I mean JO will get us David West? Come on! We already have a quality 4 in Bass. We just need him to come off the bench as the 6th man.  Camby is 38 years old. Kaman is still 29 years old.
    Posted by Fiercest34
Fierce, we don't have a quality 4 in Bass.  We have a borderline 4 that has to be hidden in the quality of KG, PP, Ray and Rondo.  Get a quality 4 while keeping these 4 and the Celts have the potential to dominate.

I don't mind Kaman if Danny can get him.  As for David West, it was also up to him to decide where he wanted to go.

nope, Bass IS def a quality 4, especially in a 6th man role. his ability to hit shots consistently really spaces the floor, and he can also take it strong to the basket and finish.

if he was a bit taller hed be a FORCE.

NO wanted to do a S&T ... they just needed to flip JON to Dallas and when JON made a big stink about being moved to a losing franchise before he found out that he'd end up in Dallas that gave LA the chance to block our deal by trading Odom to Dallas for a PTE. You really think LA accomodates Odom's request to be traded? They did that deal to stop us and get a 1st round pick to be used for DH.

Fierce while i don't agree with you about trading Rondo, i do agree with you about getting Kaman or Mcgee or a decent big, the way we battled today showed me if we had a center like one of the above, we would still be a factor in the play offs. Wilcox would have helped today, he may have made the difference.
