In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : Yes. When you get older you get slower, your reflexes slows down. Ray's passes have no zip to it. And Ray is very soft when dribbling the ball. All those are signs of old age.

Then why hasnt his shooting and running suffered due to age?

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : I disagree. Ray Allen was one hell of a player in college and when he was with Milwaukee. Even when he was in Seattle he was considered a big time player. Ray's defiencies only started showing up in 2010.
    Posted by Fiercest34

your absolutely right that he was a hell of a player. he still is. but his strong suit has never been his passing or dribbling abilities, he has always been average to below average in these categories.

so according to the def you guys are speaking of, hes not fundamentally sound.

clutch free throws and ability to shoot 3's are not deciding factors on being a fundamentally sound player.

he was better than he is now, yes.....but never really fundementally sound in those categories....he is a guy who likes to create his own shot and if it isnt there try to draw a foul.....he is more hesitant to drive in the line than he once was however, theres no question about that

Exactly!! You cant just use one aspect of the game to define fundamentals.

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : Inside the last 2 minutes Rondo always inbounds the ball. That's proof that the Celts don't want the opposing team to foul Rondo.
    Posted by Fiercest34

he inbounds the ball bc of his elite passing ability.. they trust him to get the ball inbounds w/o a turnover. he still runs plays inside 2 minutes.

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : Having weaknesses is not the same as not being fundamentally sound.  Come on, when you're 15 feet away from the basket, left unguarded, and you're a PG, you can't make 70% of the shots? That's not fundamentally sound.
    Posted by Fiercest34

Ok so if youre a PG and you cant pass well, are you not fundamentally sound? if you dont play good defense, are you not fundamentally sound?

it makes the most sense to have him imbound......he is a great passer and he doesnt shoot free throws as well as the big three

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : This was Rondos best game of the season. He is a great player, no one here besides pud and dudder denies that. But that doesn't make him fundamental sound. He almost had an airball from the FT-line. He is very good, great in stretches, definitely unique but not fundamental sound.

Nailed it. Fun to watch too when he's on.

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : You don't need talent to run. That's why anybody can run a marathon.  I shoot 3-pointers on a regular basis. Since I was young nothing has changed. But what I can't do now is drive to the basket, initiate contact, and make the shot. My leaping ability has left me. I also can't keep up with the younger PGs that I play against. You can be old and still be a great shooter. Shooting touch doesn't disappear with old age.

Look, I play all the time and I havent lost my ability to handle the ball or make a good pass.  I may not be as fast or as quick but I still can do it...

this description comfirms that you dont know what fundamentally sound is. what you described is a weakness, or flaw. its not "not being fundamentally sound." fundamentals and abilities are different things. you can be a bad player and still be fundamentally sound. there are fundamentals in all aspects of the game. shooting, ft shooting, defense, passing, rebounding, play calling. if you want to say his SHOOTING isnt fundamentally sound, ill say absolutely, bc he has an ackward jumpshot. but his point guard game as a whole? VERY sound.

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase:
In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : A PG has to be a good passer and a good defender. Those are the 2 main attributes of a PG. But it doesn't mean you're exempted from making shots. You still have to make shots from the outside or the FT line to keep defenses honest.  We're not asking for Rondo to shoot 80% from the FT line. He only needs to shoot 70% so that the opposing team will think twice before fouling him. Opponents tend to foul Rondo hard, like when Kleiza injured him a few months ago, because they know Rondo is a poor FT shooter.

Ok then Rose who isnt a good passer is not sound... Chris Paul isnt a good defender so he isnt sound...your boy Jennings cant pass and cant defend so he isnt sound...

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : Not true. Every Celtic fan knows that the Celts avoid giving the ball to Rondo in the last 2 minutes. We watch the games, Jamez.  Seriously, I like Rondo. But his inability to make perimeter shots on a regular basis hurts the Celts. And there's just no excuse for a PG to be a bad FT shooter.

yea..he sure hurt us today didnt he!?

Actually Rondos shooting form is fundamentally sound but its just not as accurate as it should be....someone could also have all the fundamentals in form to be a good passer but isnt....

In Response to Re: Game Thread - Heat @ Celtics - Sunday Showcase : Notice how Ray easily falls down when he's bumped? That didn't happen when Ray was 25-30 years old. Ray's passes have no zip to it. That's why it gets stolen most of the time. Anyway, the point is you have to guard Ray. When you send Ray to the FT line you pay, big time! Ray Allen has some weaknesses, but that doesn't mean he's not fundamentally sound.

So rondo shooting is a weakness and that makes him unsound... Ray has weaknesses but he is sound??  Youre kidding right?

umm you have to guard Rondo too..did you not hear stan van gundy today? "when teams just sag off of rondo all they are doing is giving him more space to find his teammates, you cant just sag off of him. you need to guard him, while also atoning for his speed to drive past you. thats why he is so difficult to defend."
